Now I wonder if you have ever seen a road sign like this?  We were traveling towards a farm at the base of the mountain as I heard of a wine estate that was worth visiting there. It is so great to visit close to the mountains as the air is pure and very healthy. So as we cruised along we encountered the sign next to the road. Come and see. You can see the sign in front of the tree on the left hand side of the road.  As we got closer I could read it, but we could not see any sign of Guinea fowls. Until we crested that hill.  As we crossed over the hill into a dip, this guy sat shouting at us; *Slow down, slow down, my wives are ahead.*  Then he gave us a look like one of the football managers do in the EPL, to see if we obeyed his warning :)  Another guy popped out from the bush into the road and I think his intent was to stop and fine us if we were speeding. But no need as we were driving along very sedately.  Ah! There the ladies were coming up the side of the road in single file. They normally arrange their line according to beauty and the one in the lead is top Guinea Fowl Contest model :)  I was so sure that they were discussing us as they slowed for a chat. No idea what the discussion was about, as they were a bit too far for me to hear their whispers. Ladies normally whisper when they want to chat about confidential things :)  Now I have seen Zebra crossings and we know that they were adopted by mankind as road crossings for pedestrians. They are the white lines in the roads and many drivers over here do not know that they have to stop when a pedestrian is crossing the road on a Zebra crossing. So you take your life into your hands when you cross the road on a designated Zebra crossing. There are a wide range of other road signs, but it was a first for us to see a Guinea Fowl road sign. They do some serious damage to a car so it is best to pay attention to these signs. I hit a bird whilst driving over the Richards Bay estuary the one year and that took the entire windscreen out. The guy who was sleeping in the passenger seat had the shock of his life as there was blood everywhere and thought it was his. It was a shame as it flew right into the car and it was such a beautiful bird. Don't know the name but it was white and had a massive crop and no it was not a pelican.

Wow! Glad that you were not injured. I also had a few scraps on my bike and one of the guys died when he hit a bird on his bike. That passenger in your car will never forget that experience. Must have been a big bird and might even have been an Albatross. Or a vulture for that matter. Definitely not a chicken or a guinea fowl haha. There must have been some incidents on that farm road that warranted the need for a sign, but I cannot understand why anyone would speed on it. People will be people as they say. !BEER

We need a sign for my village. One of my neighbours has had five guinea fowls for a few years now. They take 'free range' to the limit. They are let out in the morning and stay out until dusk. They roam about in the village but stay fairly close to home. Everybody knows them so they don't come to any harm. They've had a few close shaves though.

I agree with you that a sign will be a good idea. Guineas like to roam and there are miles of open spaces on the farmlands available to them. Some groups number in their hundreds and the good thing is that they cross breed, as this keeps their genes strong. The bad thing is that they are defenseless when their babies are taken by predators and we have seen some that lost all of their babies. In fact I have photos of the babies in my files somewhere. !PIZZA
