Proposal To Effectively Eliminate Ad-Free Viewing Staking Reward

When [we introduced advertising](https://www.sportstalksocial.com/advertising/@sportstalksocial/sportstalksocial-com-advertising) for the first time we deployed a feature to encourage staking SPORTS for the benefit of having an ad-free experience when viewing from [SportsTalkSocial.com](https://www.sportstalksocial.com). This was set at a reasonable amount of stake for the time at 500,000 SPORTS. A year an a half later and that's not nearly the same metrics when compared to how many SPORTS are available which is limiting the number of ads we are actively displaying.

# The Proposal

Normally I wouldn't do a proposal for updating the website but since this was a promised feature in the past I wanted to have the community's approval for this change before adjusting anything by myself. I would like to effectively end the ad-free staking reward by changing the required stake, that was initially set at 500,000, to 50 billion SPORTS. This would in turn lead to everyone using [SportsTalkSocial.com](https://www.sportstalksocial.com) receiving ads that help support the community.

# The Costs

There is no cost for this. I am only including script to return the 100,000 SPORTS proposal fee.

# Benefits to SPORTS

This would increase the number of ads available to be displayed through SportsTalkSocial.com and in turn help support the community's growth through our advertising efforts.

It's based on active stake so if it's delegated away it will count toward the other account. That might be why you would still see them on @amr008 but I couldn't explain why your .sports account would see them if it is.

It won't necessarily mean an ad buy back. The funds are deposited to @sports-gov's swap.btc address and it will be up to the stakeholders on how they are spent via the proposal system.

Thank you for your support!

I felt some of the criticisms presented for the burn were valid in that sending people here didn't have an immediate value for the community. For example at the time we hadn't switched the ads over so having them viewing on SportsTalkSocial.com would have helped with Alexa scoring but it wouldn't necessarily reward the community for using it in the same way the ads would by delivering funds that can be used to do things. I'm not expecting to fix all of the condenser requests, though it sounds like Hive Engine has plans to revisit condenser development, but if I can help make sure that when we propose an offsite penalty that using the onsite actually has solid returns to the community then I'll at least feel that I'm doing my best to cover those concerns to the best of my abilities.

I am against this proposal, but I will abstain from voting and let the majority decide.  If you want to raise the stake to 20 to 30 million I would vote yes, as this would give an incentive to up your stake not to see ads....

It could be used as a incentive to stake more sports if you don't want to see ads. But I just think that we right now need the revenue more than the incentives, but we can always change it later on. But I respect your decision

I can certainly understand the objection which is why I did not want to make any changes unilaterally in this instance. I thank you for voicing your concerns with the change and I shared them to a degree. I certainly didn't want to limit anyone's interest in staking into our community.

The reason I ended up not asking for an inflation adjusted change was mainly due to my belief that the ad-free reward wasn't driving staking interest for the token for the most part. I hadn't really seen posts about users breaking that barrier and enjoying the perks of their new rankings. It seems that some users have even been still shown ads despite being past the 500,000 for some reason and I would assume didn't even realize there was this benefit to be had.

If this proposal were to not pass I would gladly revisit with a PR for a differing amount that we can look at. I just figured by eliminating it for all it would reduce disagreements on where the bar was dropped.

If you raised it to 20 million, 98% of the tribe would still get ads.  Being ad free was not the reason I acquired 60 million tokens but I do see it as a perk not to see the ads.

I have 600k sports and had indeed not noticed the absence of the ads. I do indeed not see an ad at the moment. I just didn’t realize why that was the case. 

I will happily look at some ads, as that will increase the value of my stake in the long run.

I knew heard about this before in one of your streams and I am glad you are pushing this proposal. I support it and I think some of the largest stakeholders also support this. As I don't have 500k SPORTS staked yet, I have yet to notice the difference so it will likely stay the same for me.

I have some liquid SPORTS I haven't staked yet that I received in the morning but currently I have 155k staked. Maybe I set my goal of 200k by the end of the month but it looks like I will probably be there in another week or two.

Thank you for the support! To better explain, currently if you have 500,000 SPORTS staked to your account you shouldn't see advertising when viewing SportsTalkSocial.com. If this passes then I will change that to 50 billion SPORTS required for no ads so that everyone has ads shown when looking at the site. This should in turn increase the speed at which we deliver ads and earn payouts from the advertising program to further grow the community.
