<liketuimages>         </liketuimages> **28 days but this month felt like forever**. The other day, my boyfriend and I went over our goals for January and February. We make it a habit to set individual goals and be each other’s accountability partners. He went through his but I didn’t go through mine; I thought February was a hilarious month that I didn’t accomplish major goals (fitness category) at all and it was uncomfortable to admit so. February didn’t start well for me. At the onset of the month, I had COVID (mild symptoms only) but had to undergo home quarantine for 7 days. I know how I liked to be home but I wasn’t home, I spent the entire week in a room I’m renting in the city and it can get pretty lonely there. The week following my release to the outside world, a few unanticipated events happened. Admittedly, I lost my focus there. A week later, I was confronted with some facts I’d be dreading to sink in for the longest time. It took me a week to process it and there’s no better work to do than manage my anxiety. What’s more important than that? I didn’t feel unmotivated, because I never relied on motivation to finish what needs to be done. I just felt I’d had enough. I’ve done tons of things that I didn’t want to push hard this time around. Finally, I understood that my goals can wait, but my mental health couldn’t and shouldn’t be in queue for whatever reason. So I took the backseat and enjoyed the movie. I’ve been out every weekend – Tabuelan, Kontiki, and Sumilon Island. And that helped a lot, especially that few minutes of just staring at the vastness of the ocean while lying in a woven swing in Sumilon. In the past, I’d certainly be disappointed with myself for not accomplishing all my monthly goals, but now, I don’t take it personally. This may sound like an excuse, but I am not my goals. I am not what I accomplish in a day or in a month. I am more than the boxes I tick off on my Bullet Journal. I think what’s more worth noting is that despite all that I’ve been through this month I didn’t explode into another anxiety attack (my doctor should be proud of me! haha), that I’ve slept well, ate well, and lived well. March will be a bit harder than it should have been; all unfinished business in February such as my running miles will be carried over to March. That’s just the downside of not completing that tasks. Fantastic! And some goals need revisiting and revising, too! Let's see! Before I end this soliloquy let me end this with my *most valuable* learning for this month: Once you are in a relationship, there’s no such thing as "This is who I am, take it or leave it." Just leaving that here for now. Well, as much as we try to plan our lives perfectly, it is the adversity we meet along away and most importantly, how we deal with them, which shape our lives the most from then on. When I was younger, I used to make very micro oriented goals on what I wanted to achieve, whether it was passing an exam, saving a bit more money, finding a better job.. all of it seems very reasonable until you realise that all of these goals are actually just milestones for an even bigger goal in the greater picture. The bigger goals are just composed of the smaller ones, and the smaller ones are just composed of the even more smaller ones.. right until it starts with the littlest atomic action you can possibly do in a day. For me, the granularity of how I wish to set goals has changed very much from micro to macro. I think having the greater overarching goal is how I square my day to day. The other thing of course, is this is all progressive, and one component relies on the last. For instance, a simple progression might be.. have a happy family and for that I would need a decent job, a suitable partner. You can quickly see that it becomes a recursive problem with each step pretty much relying on the step before.
