Testing MIDI guitar software // Jam Origin - Audio to MIDI.

Yesterday I was messing around with this very neat software from the people at Jam Origin and must say I was very impressed with it! MIDI conversion from guitars have been around for a while but it usually involves complicated setups, hexaphonic pickups , racks and expensive systems. Roland and Fishman have been leading that market for as long as I can remember but I never got around getting one of those systems installed on a guitar of mine. 

The guys at Jam Origin have come with a piece of software that actually tracks your normal guitar signal and converts it to MIDI on real time .. and it's even polyphonic ! All of this without installing anything extra on your guitar , just a regular cable will do and I must say I was also impressed with it's very accurate tracking , though not 100% on spot it's very close and not so hard to get used to after messing with patches for a little bit.

While not Free as this software costs U$ 99.95 it is still a much cheaper option than anything else on the market, if you are into synth sounds I think it is worth the investment.

I haven't bough it myself but I downloaded the Free Trial and gave it a test run , I'm quite impressed to be honest .. maybe i'll consider buying it in the future.

I'll be testing it a few days and see if I can make some cool sounds out of it or just lose interest and come back to my regular guitar sounds and leave that to keyboard players :P

Oh that little gadget sounds interesting! I like the fact that it is portable .. so easy to carry around to work on a laptop on the road.

About the software , I don't think you could have independent switch of sounds on strings since all it does is interpret pitch and transform it to midi  , it is polyphonic though! but in order to assign different sounds to strings you'd need a Hex pickup , picking the signal of each string individually like the Gk3 . The MIDI device by Fishman i think can do something similar .. haven't tried that one!
