CME patents the block with the "change of rules"

A new patent application from the CME Group implies that the system is able to modify the rules of the blocking system without having a consensus of all nodes of the network. This is a key requirement for systems that are used for premium award programs for airlines and other similar applications where the block is used to store information in real time.

The application was submitted in December 2016, and the publication was held last Thursday by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The CME provides an example of a program for airline passengers as an example of where this system will be needed. If the airline decides to keep the data for frequent flyers in an open locker, the company will need to create a process for modifying the rules of the blockage, in case the terms of the bonus program change.

The patent application notes that while public lockers are important for crypto currency, their difficult to change character makes them less suitable for some private and commercial purposes.
