These days I've been doing several Albion Online streams on Twitch, except for yesterday which was mixed content. I decided to try the demo of a new game that has a certain resemblance to Albion Online, but also brings new and interesting ideas.

This game was announced quite a while ago. I already knew about it, and honestly, I didn't want anything to do with it. What I saw at first didn't appeal to me at all, especially its futuristic aesthetic full of robots and technology, which is not my thing. Yesterday I decided to try it along with @oldfool, and I can say I was wrong, at least a little.

Right in the tutorial, they send you to eliminate some enemies to get coins that are used to improve certain things. The first thing I noticed is that the bow they give you at the start has an absurd range. You can literally keep attacking without backing away from the enemy, and it's unlikely they'll even touch you before dying.

I was also surprised by how dynamic it is to move through the maps and the fact that there are basically no loading screens. In Albion, changing maps always comes with loading screens, but in this game, they're almost instant, and that's with the game installed on my HDD, not my SSD.

I feel like this game also has a bit of a survival vibe. You need to set up your home in the area you want, but ideally you pick a spot near a vein, which are resources that get extracted passively thanks to your walking home. Oh yeah, at the start they also teach you how to use your walking home, which is literally a Star Wars-style walking robot. Honestly, I loved the idea of moving around with your super robot and being able to relocate your entire home whenever you want. That said, your robot can be attacked, although I'm not sure exactly how that system works. No one attacked me and I couldn't attack anyone who had their walking home either.

At first, I felt a bit uncomfortable with so many options and interfaces, but it's not that hard to understand once you start playing. The game, like many survivals, has a massive tree of upgrades, damage, fleet, extraction, ability unlocks, and more.

There's also an equipment training tree, where you can upgrade all your gear and its specializations, just like in Albion Online.

Something interesting is that you can unlock champions or characters as you progress. These characters are called nomads. I picked one that really caught my attention called Elektrix. I chose him just because he had area damage, I didn’t read his skills or passives, although from the name I assumed it had something to do with electricity.

As for performance, I didn’t test many settings. It runs pretty average for a new game, but I think in massive fights it performs better than Albion. We'll have to wait for the official launch to really know.

Something I didn’t quite understand is that the game forces you at the beginning to pick a faction or territory with specific bonuses depending on what you want to do. After choosing it, you end up in an area full of hostile players, players who can lose things when they die. I don’t know if I did something wrong and picked a hostile zone by mistake or if the game is just meant to be that aggressive. At least in Albion they warn you when you’re entering dangerous zones. That said, I noticed that when you kill or get killed, you don’t lose everything. Sometimes you just lose part of your gear. I don’t remember if I lost anything from my inventory.

This game is pretty interesting and I think it has a long road ahead. At least I love that games like this keep coming out, games that are more focused on economy and risky PvP. I'd say I judged it wrong. I shouldn't have thought it was a bad game just because I saw things I didn't like.

If they polish the interface and gradually improve the terrain and PvE, it could become something big, we’ll see. I played for several hours, not too many, and felt like progression was pretty fast. Out of nowhere, I was already killing players and clearing camps quickly. Maybe I didn’t actually progress much and was just in a low-level area, but it was fun.

Estos días he estado haciendo varios Streams de Albion Online en Twitch, exceptuando ayer que fue contenido mixto. Decidí probar la demo de un nuevo juego que tiene cierto parecido a Albion Online, pero también incorpora ideas nuevas e interesantes.

Este juego se anunció hace bastante tiempo. Ya lo conocía, y honestamente no quería saber nada de él. Lo que vi en un principio no me gustó nada, sobre todo su estética futurista llena de robots y tecnología, no es lo mío. Ayer decidí probarlo junto a @oldfool, y puedo decir que me equivoqué, al menos un poco.

Justo en el tutorial te mandan a eliminar unos enemigos para obtener monedas que sirven para mejorar ciertas cosas. Lo primero que noté es que el arco que nos dan al principio tiene un alcance descomunal. Literalmente puedes ir golpeando sin alejarte del enemigo y es poco probable que logre tocarte antes de morir.

También me sorprendió lo dinámico que es moverse por los mapas y que prácticamente no existen pantallas de carga. En Albion al cambiar de mapa siempre hay pantallas de carga, pero en este juego son casi instantáneas, y eso que lo instalé en mi HDD, no en mi SSD.

Siento que este juego también tiene cierto aire de Survival. Debes establecer tu hogar en el área que quieras, pero lo ideal es elegir un lugar cercano a una vena, que son recursos que se extraen pasivamente gracias a tu hogar andante. Ah sí, al principio también nos enseñan a usar nuestro hogar andante, que literalmente es un robot caminante tipo Star Wars. Honestamente me encantó eso de poder moverte con tu super robot y trasladar todo tu hogar cuando quieras. Eso sí, pueden atacar tu robot, aunque no sé bien cómo funciona ese sistema. Al menos nadie me atacó ni pude atacar a nadie que tuviera su hogar andante.

Al inicio me sentí un poco incómodo con tantas opciones e interfaces, pero no es tan complicado de entender una vez que empiezas a jugar. El juego, como muchos survivals, cuenta con un enorme árbol de mejoras, daño, flota, extracción, desbloqueos de habilidades y mucho más.

Además, también hay un árbol de entrenamiento de equipo, donde puedes mejorar todas tus piezas y sus especializaciones, al igual que en Albion Online.

Algo curioso es que puedes ir desbloqueando campeones o personajes a medida que avanzas. Estos personajes se denominan nómadas. Yo elegí a uno que me llamó bastante la atención llamado Elektrix. Lo elegí solo porque tiene daño en área, no leí sus habilidades ni pasivas, aunque por el nombre supuse que tendría algo que ver con electricidad.

En cuanto al rendimiento, no probé demasiadas configuraciones. Me va bastante regular para ser un juego nuevo, pero creo que en peleas masivas me corre mejor que Albion. Habrá que esperar al lanzamiento oficial para comprobarlo.

Algo que no entendí muy bien es que el juego al principio te obliga a elegir una facción o territorio con ciertas ventajas según lo que quieras hacer. Luego de elegirla, apareces en un terreno lleno de jugadores hostiles, jugadores que pueden perder cosas al morir. No sé si hice algo mal y elegí una zona hostil por error o si el juego busca ser agresivo por defecto. Al menos en Albion te avisan si estás entrando en zonas peligrosas. Eso sí, noté que al matar o morir no pierdes todo, a veces solo pierdes parte del equipamiento, no recuerdo si perdí algo del inventario.

Está bastante curioso este juego y creo que tiene mucho camino por delante. Al menos me encanta que sigan saliendo títulos de este estilo, más enfocados en la economía y el PvP riesgoso. Diría que lo juzgué mal. No debí pensar que era un mal juego solo por ver cosas que no me gustaban.

Si pulen la interfaz y mejoran poco a poco los terrenos y el PvE, puede llegar a ser un grande, ya lo veremos. Jugué varias horas, aunque no demasiadas, y sentí que la progresión fue bastante rápida. De la nada ya estaba matando jugadores y limpiando campamentos rápidamente. Tal vez no avancé nada realmente y solo estaba en una zona de nivel bajo, pero estuvo divertido.

I'm amazed by the tremendous skill tree in this video game. It reminded me a lot of Albion, which has almost the same skill tree.
