Before the July 4th payout I made a post that I called [Proof of Promise](https://steemit.com/steemit/@pfunk/proof-of-promise), the title a take on the proof-of-work and proof-of-stake terms used in cryptocurrency land. I laid out my own personal ledger of promises (forgetting a promise I made to @void, actually), but I didn't really explain the motivation entirely. 
## Steemit magic
Though every person who made a promise to me is a positive contributor around here, I imagined a scenario where maybe less honest people were to make promises of this sort. Where in other projects such promises made into the future might not be kept, I think on Steemit there is extra reason to be honest, be trustworthy, and be a positive contributor. The fact that the value in our accounts is relatively long-term really promotes these natural traits (ok, in most of us). If someone were dishonest, but intended on sticking with Steem, they would probably not receive many votes or get downvotes from people aware of their dishonesty. And they could make a new account, but would not have the benefit of whatever Steem Power they'd already acquired.

Therefore the point of this post is to highlight the trust that this platform can create out of a trustless environment.
## Just-Dice ads
Firstly I promised to spend the entirety of SD rewards for my post [Grassroots advertising for Steemit](https://steemit.com/steemit/@pfunk/grassroots-advertising-for-steemit) on running community ads on just-dice.com. This ended up being $102.405 SD.

[I've spent 36.7 Clams so far](https://i.imgsafe.org/8332ba8347.png), without cashing out a single Steem Dollar, over the last 5 weeks. Over the same period the price of Clam has averaged about 0.0011 BTC each and the USD price of BTC has swung wildly up then down a bit, but I am going to estimate an average of $625, so I am going to say the average price of Clams from when I started funding ads has been $0.69. So up to now, I've spent $25.232 or about a quarter of the SD rewards on Just-Dice ads and they continue to run.

## void
I made a post, with his blessing, to use @void's [steemreduce software](https://steemit.com/steem/@void/steemreduce-incremental-mapreduce-for-regular-users) to [take requests for post reward totals](https://steemit.com/steemit/@pfunk/find-out-how-much-your-posts-have-made-with-voids-steemreduce-taking-requests-to-do) for people with a large amount of them. I promised void 25% of the value from the post. It ended up getting obviated quickly after I posted it, but still garnered enough votes to give me a total payout of $28.58 worth of SD and SP.

## tuck-fheman
@tuck-fheman very generously promised equal shares of the proceeds from his [How-To Mine Steem in Windows](https://steemit.com/steem/@tuck-fheman/how-to-mine-steem-in-windows) post to 10 people who helped him including me. His transfer generated my first Steem Dollar interest payment. He also even more generously sent $20 extra SD! Thanks for the 12-pack tuck-is-fhe-man* (*in a good way ;).

## Trust in a sea of trustlessness
It's not a big secret the cryptocurrency world has attracted scammers like flies to honey, mainly due to the nature of irreversible transactions of tokens that have value. With that in mind I recommend always being on guard, but I think Steemit has the potential to make people more honest, or at least to know who you're dealing with. Though I expected nothing less from the good people I had promises with, my personal trust exercise here came through with 100% success. Thanks to all for playing.
