Thanks for this interesting lesson on bananas. When we lived on the Tenerife Island (Spain), our apartment was right next to a large banana plantation but they looked different than yours. Both the plants and the fruit. Must have been some other cultivar I guess. You could cut them green and they would turn yellow in a few days. Here are some photos:

They are ripe bananas - the one that I gave a support (towards end of the post). The one you have posted is actually the best in taste. There are several varieties in each of them. The one I cut is the curry banana.

Right, there must be more varietes. In Mexico, we sometimes bought these miniature bananas too :)

Cute looking and super sweet. Bananas are awesome. Definitely one of my favorite fruits. Delicious and nutritious. I wish I could grow them in the garden like you but here in Central Europe where I come from, itΒ΄s not possible. Too cold here in the winter. But down there in Southern Europe, bananas are a very common crop :)

The problem with getting them from market is that, they use chemicals for ripen them. We usually procure them from the tree only after seeing one of them showing up as yellow. Then just hang inside a room and it goes on for 1-2 weeks. All natural. Unfortunately, we have very few choice and still buy from market when not have them at home.
