Niche is the main component of your blog. If you are a writer and want to start a blogging career, you have to select a niche for your blog. Niche is the topic of your blog, on what issue you are eager to write your content. 

Now, if you're a guitarist, you may love to write about the guitar. If you're a motivational speaker, you may write about happiness, motivation, etc. It's not mandatory that you have to select a niche according to your profession or hobby. But it will be easier for you if you chose your niche or topic according to your passion or hobby because you know more about that niche than others. Right?

Now suppose your topic could be health, motivation, finance, marketing, lifestyle, art, photography, travel, etc. These topics are also called the market or main niche. There are sub-niches on every market. Instead of writing on everything about "Health," you can write about sub-topics like nutrition, diet, weight loss, meditation, yoga, etc. This is how you can narrow down your audience, and the target will be so more straightforward for you. 

Look at the blog where you are writing. Check if your niche is popular on that blog or not. For example, if you want to write about finance, then Leofinance could be your choice. But if you write on health or travel, Leofinance isn't your place, and you probably get flagged for posting the offtopic article. 

Now, look at the Hive blog. There are lots of communities according to niche or topic. For example - if you love gaming, you can write on the community [Hive Gaming](https://hive.blog/trending/hive-140217). If your niche is Movies, try the neighborhood [Movies & TV Shows](https://hive.blog/trending/hive-166847).

Also, check how many subscribers the community have. It's important because you'll know how many people are going to see your post. More subscribers mean you probably can get more upvotes if your content is good though getting upvotes depends on many factors. 

Let's talk about your website now. If you want to write on your website, it's super important to select a profitable sub-niche. I wrote the word "profitable" because not all niches will give you good money if you have plans to earn from your blog or website.

Look at some niches where you can earn good money if your targeted audience is from the USA. Not all niches will pay you the same PPC(pay per click). If you love to write about insurance, and your website is about insurance, you may earn up to $17.55 per click from Google Adsense. Sounds crazy, right? 

That means if your niche is insurance and you can rank your website in Google search, you are probably going to be a rich person soon. On the other hand, the electronic niche will give you $0.73 PPC, which is very low if we compare it with insurance. There are some different niches where you may get lower than $0.20 PPC. 

So my suggestion is that choose a niche where PPC is more than $1.50. Then, it could give you decent passive income if you can rank the site on Google. 

I talked about "Narrowing down the audience" a little bit earlier. Always choose sub-niche for your blog. It's hard to compete with big authority websites with the main niche. It's pretty impossible actually because they are miles ahead in the journey.

Choose a niche where the difficulty is low and easy to rank. Look at the screenshot. It's easier to rank an article with the keyword "Nutrition Tips" than an article with the keyword "Health Tips." The search volume is low on "nutrition tips," but you can't target all citizens in the world. Narrow down your audience. In the beginning, focus on fewer people. 

I would also like to share that you don't have to be an expert on your niche. Just follow your heart! If you feel you should go with the niche "Travel," then go with that. Your first content won't be that good. But over time, you'll be an expert writer. Day by day, you'll gather experience. Just don't copy-paste; keep your content plagiarism-free. And write in easy language, try to understand what people want to read. 

Research the contents on your competitor's website and try to find out their lackings. Then, fill the gaps by removing that lacking in your content.
