What you can do with a ship

Ever dreamed of owning a ship? How will you afford it? As part of our examination of the world of maritime shipping finance, we are currently looking at the factors that play a role in ship finance related decisions.

Freight Rates are perhaps the most obvious factor influencing the investment decisions for potential investors in ships. It doesn't matter if they are individuals or companies.

Freight rates represent the “rent“ of a ship that is usually calculated per day. Freight rates vary considerably, even over short periods of time.

Their volatility does not make them any less important for investors. The fast-growing shipping derivative market is making it easier for shipowners to mitigate the risks of volatile rates. 

They are able to fix the fees that they will receive for long periods of time with Freight Forward Agreements.
