## My Creative Process

As a composer, creativity, high level of output in music is extremely demanding and taxing on the brain and the body. Every day there's something that forces me to be able to produce without getting disrupted by things like writers block, etc. For me, creativity is always on the fly, and has to be something that I can rely on in order to produce the content I need. Choosing the right colors for an art piece is similar to choosing instruments, tempos, meters, genres, making sounds, creative problem solving, etc. 

My creative process varies. It generally resembles staring at a computer screen, writing digital notes, playing in samples, recording audio, basically everything at a computer. It's increasingly difficult as of late to be creative while sitting in front of a computer and I have devised a few tools to help be creative on the fly. 

With all of the distractions of texts, calls, emails, notifications, how are we able to have time for creating good ideas? There are so many vibrations, but not enough for actual productivity! 

## The Best Ideas Are In Isolation

I have found myself frequently turning my phone on to Do Not Disturb while working. It's quite enjoyable and allows for more concentrated work in less lengthy time frames. I have always been extremely sensitive to sounds. As I'm writing this my cat is walking by me, and I can hear his footsteps. 

The best process for writing something good for me is to turn all of my sense off. All that aren't necessary at least. I will sit at the digital piano, with my headphones on. I will keep my phone in the other room on Do Not Disturb and just use a sheet of paper and a pencil. This is the best way to get things done. I have tried working from my computer with my Wifi turned off, and it was also reasonably successful. There's an addictive frequency that hits you at a computer that drives an impulse to check email, social media, text messages, etc. Like a drug addiction, this is hard to avoid. 

The goal with quieting the distractions in your process is to essentially slow your brain waves down.

## Get Some Fresh Air

I have found that one of the best solutions to getting creatively buzzed is by stepping away from it briefly. Imagine just taking a walk for 15 minutes, absorbing everything around you.  Sounds nice right? While doing this, be conscious of whenever your brain brings up work-related topics. The goal of stepping away is to not to think of them. When you come back, you will just have had all of this sensory experience and it works like a nice refresher. Often times I will get an idea while I am out, or in the shower, or asleep, and find myself using that idea in the end result. It seems the more focused on a task, especially digitally, the more difficult it becomes, and the lower quality the product gets.
