IGMS column 9: Spelunking the Noosphere

<p>My <a href="http://www.intergalacticmedicineshow.com/cgi-bin/mag.cgi?do=columns&amp;vol=randall_hayes&amp;article=009">September 2016 column</a> for the Intergalactic Medicine Show is a short history of the idea of information as particles, both in biology (genes) and in human thought and culture (memes). &nbsp;It does not directly address Shannon's information theory and how that ties in with thermodynamics and <a href="http://myxo.css.msu.edu/papers/nature2003/">computational evolutionary biology</a>, though that's pretty interesting stuff, too.</p>
