La Pachamama de los habitantes de los Andes americanos, la madre tierra que protege la vida. Su significado va más allá, al universo donde el polvo cósmico se asentó en este planeta Tierra.

"**Para los quechuas, Madre tierra, deidad máxima de los cerros peruanos, bolivianos, y del noroeste Argentino. Pacha es universo, mundo, tiempo, lugar, mientras que Mama es madre**".

Los primeros habitantes de esta región de montañas tan altas donde el frío se mete hasta los huesos, adoraban a esta madre que les daba el sustento a través del cultivo de la tierra, de los frutos de las plantas adaptadas a esas condiciones, la papa y la coca.  La diosa de la fertilidad que como toda madre ama a sus hijos y les reclama cuando no se portan bien. 

La comunidad Holos&lotus ha querido recordar el día de la Pachamama el cual se celebra el 01 de agosto, fecha que coincide con el período de lluvias en esta región del hemisferio sur, para hacer un homenaje a nuestra madre Tierra, quien nos provee de todo lo necesario, a quien estamos conectada a través de la energía de nuestros cuerpos y de la espiritualidad. Debemos honrarla y cuidarla no solo para nuestro beneficio sino también para el de todos los seres vivientes. 

Cuando estaba pequeña y comenzaban las lluvias, jugaba con los grillos que saltaban en el jardín de mi casa y me gustaba agarrar a las chicharras para escuchar su canto, sabía que ellas no vivirían mucho tiempo fuera de la tierra, pero esa oportunidad de salir luego de permanecer muchos años en la oscuridad era única, ver la luz y contemplar el maravilloso espectáculo de nuestro planeta para reproducirse valía la pena. Es el ciclo de la vida. 

Desde entonces he sentido esa especial atracción por la naturaleza en toda su grandiosidad y ahora entiendo que cada ser, cada roca, cada elemento: agua, fuego, aire, tierra, que forma parte del planeta están aquí por una razón y es mantener en equilibrio el ciclo vital.

Las frías corrientes heladas de las montañas andinas coronadas por los picos nevados, se cuelan entre las paredes de las casas de los campesinos que viven desde hace muchos años en estas soledades.  Dentro de ellas el calor de unos trozos de madera ardiendo, el aroma del café, las arepas en el fogón, son señales de que el día comienza y hay que trabajar, cultivar la tierra que les da el sustento.  La siembra de la papa se inicia en los surcos y mientras José va colocando la semilla, sus hijos Julián y Pedro las van tapando. Toda la mañana bajo el sol ardiente de las alturas, ellos continúan su labor, pidiendo permiso a la Pachamama para que la siembra prospere, que las plantas se desarrollen, que la producción les permita alimentar a su familia y vender el excedente en el mercado del pueblo. 

Al terminar regresan a la casa cansados pero satisfechos del trabajo realizado. Carmen, esposa y madre los espera con una sopita caliente para combatir el frío.  En la noche, la temperatura está bajo cero, pero a José todavía no le preocupa la siembra, pues la semilla aún no ha comenzado a germinar y sus pequeños brotes están protegidos bajo la tierra, pero si piensa en lo que pasará cuando los brotes emerjan y el frío los cubra. Espera con fe que la temperatura comience a subir y que llueva.

El agua llegó una mañana en forma de una llovizna fina y fría y baño a la tierra.  Los brotes comenzaron a salir del suelo oscuro y suelto.  El sol calentó para que la temperatura aumentara unos grados, lo suficiente para que el cultivo no se congelara.  El viento frío se marchó a otras latitudes. 

José y su familia agradecen a la Pachamama por ayudarlos. Ellos cuidan y protegen la montaña donde viven, se sienten conectados a esta. Agradecen por lo que tienen y permanecen en equilibrio con las fuerzas de la naturaleza: aire, fuego, agua y luz.  

La pachamama está en nuestras vidas, aun cuando a veces pensemos que no estamos en contacto con ella, porque vivimos rodeados de cemento y concreto, pero respiramos el aire para que nuestro organismo funcione, tomamos el agua para calmar nuestra sed, recibimos los rayos de sol que nos dan la vida y sus frutos que nos alimentan. No olvidemos esto y  tratemos a nuestra madre Tierra, a nuestra Pachamama, siempre con amor y respeto.

The Pachamama of the inhabitants of the American Andes, the mother earth that protects life. Its meaning goes beyond, to the universe where the cosmic dust settled on this planet Earth.

The first inhabitants of this region of mountains so high where the cold gets into the bones, worshiped this mother who gave them sustenance through the cultivation of the land, the fruits of plants adapted to these conditions, the potato and coca.  The goddess of fertility who, like every mother, loves her children and claims them when they do not behave well. 

The Holos&lotus community has wanted to remember the day of the Pachamama which is celebrated on August 1st, which coincides with the rainy season in this region of the southern hemisphere, to pay homage to our mother Earth who provides us with everything we need, to whom we are connected through the energy of our bodies and spirituality. We must honor and take care of her not only for our benefit but also for the benefit of all living beings. 

When I was little and the rains began, I played with the crickets that jumped in the garden of my house and I liked to grab the cicadas to listen to their song, I knew they would not live long outside the earth, but that opportunity to come out after staying many years in the dark was unique, to see the light and contemplate the wonderful spectacle of our planet was worth it. It is the cycle of life. 

Since then I have felt that special attraction for nature in all its grandeur and now I understand that every being, every rock, every element, water, fire, air, earth, that is part of the planet is here for a reason and that is to maintain the life cycle in balance.

The cold icy currents of the Andean mountains crowned by snow-capped peaks, sneak between the walls of the houses of the farmers who have lived for many years in these solitudes.  Inside, the warmth of burning pieces of wood, the aroma of coffee and arepas on the stove are signs that the day has begun and that it is time to work, to cultivate the land that gives them their livelihood.  The potato planting begins in the furrows and while José is placing the seed, his sons Julián and Pedro are covering them. All morning under the burning sun of the heights, they continue their work, asking permission to the Pachamama so that the planting prospers, that the plants develop, that the production allows them to feed their family and sell the surplus in the village market. 

When they finish, they return home tired but satisfied with the work they have done. Carmen, their wife and mother, waits for them with a hot soup to combat the cold.  At night, the temperature is below zero, but José is not yet worried about the sowing, because the seed has not yet begun to germinate and its small sprouts are protected in the soil, but he thinks about what will happen when the sprouts emerge and the cold covers them. She waits in faith for the temperature to begin to rise and for rain.

The water came one morning in the form of a fine, cold drizzle and bathed the soil.  Sprouts began to emerge from the loose, black soil.  The sun warmed so that the temperature rose a few degrees, just enough to keep the crop from freezing.  The cold wind left for other latitudes. 
José and his family thank Pachamama for helping them. 

They care for and protect the mountain where they live, they feel connected to it. They are grateful for what they have and remain in balance with the forces of nature air, fire, water and light.  

Pachamama is in our lives, even when sometimes we think that we are not in contact with her, because we live surrounded by cement and concrete, but we breathe the air for our body to function, we drink the water to quench our thirst, we receive the sun's rays that give us life and its fruits that feed us. Let us not forget this and let us always treat it with love and respect.
