Simon's grandparents had died a week ago, but no one knew it. They lived apart from the rest of the world. Every week for the past year, a supermarket employee would bring them food and other necessities to their front door.

When he arrived at the door, he would ring the bell, leave the merchandise on the floor and leave. I had never seen them in person. The orders were placed by Mr. Alfredo over the phone.

Therefore nobody missed them, they did not know them. They had moved a year ago to the House of the lilies, so called because of a pond at the entrance where white and purple lilies grew and some water lilies whose large round leaves floated gracefully on the dark water, where blue dragonflies with iridescent wings flew.

Several families had lived in this house and it remained alone for a while until Alfredo and Lucia, an elderly couple over 70 years old, bought it to spend their last year of life.

"Simon, this house is very nice but I don't know, I'm a little scared to go in after they found your grandparents dead in their bed, how creepy!"

"Don't be so scary, Juliana! It's been a month since my grandparents died and I have to do what my mother asked me to do. Check it out and decide if we put it up for sale or you and I live here, what do you think?"

"You are crazy Simon! Her big black eyes widened looking at him as if reprimanding him.

Twenty-year-old Juliana had accepted her boyfriend Simon's invitation to accompany him to this remote coastal town. She found her boyfriend's grandparents' decision to seclude themselves in this house and die there, alone, very strange.

When Simon opened the door, Juliana felt the hairs on her arms stand up.

"It's cold in here!" and she folded her arms across her chest. Her long black hair was stirred by a current of air coming from the south of the house. "Where does that breeze come from?" Her voice sounded shaky.

"Someone must have left a window open. Let's check it out."

They walked through the living room whose furniture was covered with white sheets. On the pale yellow walls there were no pictures or portraits, only a colorful tapestry with two seagulls in flight over the sea.

They continued down a corridor where there were three rooms, two of them with closed doors and the last one was open.

"This is where the draft comes from, come Juliana!"

They entered a simply furnished room with a small bed in the center, spread with a pink bedspread, a mahogany table and a combing table with a stool and a large mirror. On the opposite wall there was a window with a white curtain that blew in the wind, letting the scent of the sea pass through.

"You see Juliana, there is no need to be afraid, everything has an explanation". They both approached the window and saw the landscape behind the house. A path between cují bushes that led to the sea.

"I'm going to close the window. At this hour the breeze is cold."

"I guess this isn't the room where your grandparents died?" Juliana looked around the room curiously, hoping to find something strange.

But Simon's grandparents had not died in their room, their bodies were found strangely side by side in the bushes on the path leading to the beach. The police said they had died of natural causes. *They died of old age*, was the final conclusion. Simon did not want to tell Juliana the truth at that moment, because she seemed very nervous.

"This was not his room."

"And which one was Simon?"

"The second one. But let's keep checking the house while it's still daylight. He looked at his watch. It's already five o'clock in the afternoon."

They went back down the hall and into the kitchen. The place was very well lit, it had two large windows with curtains of daisy flowers facing the front from where they could see the pond. The central table was made of wood painted white, with white stools. Everything was very clean. The cups were placed upside down on a porcelain tray. The plates and glasses were in a wooden cabinet with glass doors. On the table was a large glass jar with two cookies wrapped in cellophane paper.

"Look Simon, fortune cookies!". Juliana's face became as happy as a child's before a lollipop.

"Don't even think of opening one! let alone eating it! We don't know how long they've been there."

"I wasn't planning on it Simon, they just brought back memories of my grandmother. She used to bring them to us when she came to visit us and we had fun reading the messages. And the most extraordinary thing is that they were always right."

"Of course that's how it is, there's the catch, the messages are for good luck, for example: something good will happen to you, you will smile today, you will see someone you love, follow your intuition, etc. That can happen to anyone".

"I prefer to believe that these are messages from the future."

"I dare you to do a test. Let's open the cookies. One you and one me".

"I don't like that game, Simon! especially not in this house. And besides, you already said we didn't know how long they would have been stored there."

"But we're not going to eat them, we'll open them and read the message."

Simon's challenging look behind his glasses and the mocking smile on his thin and dark face, ended up convincing Juliana.

"Okay, let's do it."

Juliana went first, with a trembling hand she opened the lid and reached into the jar and took out a cookie. Then Simon did the same.

Juliana's face paled as she read.

They opened the first room. There were two small beds and a desk. It was also very simple like the last one and the windows were closed. The second room had a double bed with a yellow coverlet. On the nightstand was a black vase with painted sunflowers.

Juliana had stood in the doorway.

"I'm not going into the room, I have a strange feeling, as if your grandparents were lying there."

"All right, you stay there. I'm going to check".

Simon went over to the nightstand and opened the drawer. There he found a folder with the house papers. He took it and went out.

"Let's go to the kitchen. I think it's the brightest place in the house. And it makes me want a coffee and I'm hungry too."

While Juliana made the coffee and prepared some sandwiches, Simon sat on a stool and read the documents.

There was the purchase document of the property and the invoices from the furniture store. Inside these papers there was also an envelope.

Juliana had served the coffee and sandwiches on the table and had approached Simon who had opened the envelope and taken out a handwritten paper, which he began to read.

*Our destiny has been determined by what people would call chance, but it has not been so. Juliana did not understand very well what Simon was reading. 

"Your grandparents went crazy, poor people let themselves be suggested by the messages in the cookies and died because of that. You were right Simon. I can't let fear get the better of me"

But Simon wasn't listening to her. He was remembering something his grandfather had told him when he was a child that had encouraged him to study the evidence of life on other worlds. Look at the stars Simon, they seem so far away and we can't reach them, but there is a way to get there, you just have to dream it.

Los abuelos de Simón habían muerto hace una semana, pero nadie lo sabia. Vivian apartados del resto del mundo. Desde hace un año cada semana,  un empleado del supermercado les llevaba el alimento y otras cosas necesarias hasta la puerta de su casa. 

Al llegar a la puerta tocaba el timbre, dejaba la mercancía en el piso y se iba. Nunca los había visto en persona. Los pedidos los hacía el sr. Alfredo  por teléfono. 

Por tanto nadie los extrañaba, no los conocían. Se habían mudado hace un año a la Casa de los lirios,  llamada así por un estanque que había en la entrada donde crecían lirios blancos y morados y algunos nenúfares cuyas hojas grandes y redondas flotaban grácilmente sobre el agua oscura, donde  volaban las libélulas azules de alas tornasoladas. 

Varias familias habían habitado esta casa y  quedó sola por un tiempo hasta que Alfredo y Lucia,  una pareja de ancianos de mas de 70 años la habían comprado para pasar su último año de vida. 

 —Simón esta casa es muy bonita pero no se, me da un poco de miedo entrar después de que encontraron a tus abuelos muertos en su cama. ¡Que escalofriante! 

 —¡No seas tan temerosa, Juliana! Ya hace un mes de que mis abuelos murieron y debo hacer lo que mi madre me pidió. Revisarla y decidir si la ponemos a la venta o tu y yo vivimos aquí, ¿que te parece? 

—¡Estas loco Simón! —Sus grandes ojos negros se abrieron mirándolo como si lo reprendiera.

Juliana, una joven de veinte años había aceptado la invitación de su novio Simón para acompañarlo a este remoto pueblo costero. Le parecía muy extraña la decisión de los abuelos de su novio de recluirse en este casa y morir allí, solos. 

Cuando Simón abrió la puerta, Juliana sintió que los vellos de los brazos se le erizaban. 

 —¡Hace frio aquí adentro! —y se cruzó los brazos sobre el pecho. Su larga cabellera negra se agito por una corriente de aire que venía del sur de la casa. —¿Esa brisa de donde viene?        —Su voz sonó temblorosa. 

—Alguien ha debido dejar abierta una ventana. ¡Vamos a revisar!

Atravesaron la sala cuyos muebles estaban cubiertos con sabanas blancas. En las paredes de color amarillo pálido no habían cuadros ni retratos, solo un tapiz de colores con dos gaviotas en vuelo sobre el mar.  

Siguieron por un pasillo por donde estaban tres habitaciones, dos de estas con las puertas cerradas y la última estaba abierta. 

 —De aquí viene la corriente de aire,    —entremos Juliana. 

Entraron a una habitación  sencillamente amoblada con una cama pequeña en el centro, tendida con un cobertor  de color rosado, una mesa de caoba y una peinadora con una banqueta y un gran espejo. En la pared de enfrente había una ventana con una cortina blanca que el viento volaba dejando pasar el aroma del mar.  

 —¡Viste Juliana! no hay porque tener miedo, todo tiene una explicación. 

Ambos se acercaron a la ventana y vieron el paisaje que había detras de la casa. Un sendero entre arbustos de cujíes que conducía al mar. 

—Voy a cerrar la ventana. A esta hora la brisa es fría. 

—¿Me imagino que este no es el cuarto donde tus abuelos murieron? —Juliana observaba el cuarto con curiosidad, esperando encontrar algo extraño. 

Pero los abuelos de Simón no habían muerto en su habitación, encontraron sus cuerpos extrañamente uno al lado del otro entre los arbustos en el sendero que conduce a la playa. La policía dijo que la muerte había sido por causas naturales. Mu*rieron de viejos* fue la conclusión final. Simón no quiso en ese momento decirle la verdad a Juliana, porque la veía muy nerviosa. 

—Este no era su cuarto. 

—¿Y cual era Simón? 

—El segundo. Pero vamos a continuar revisando la casa mientras sea de día. Miró su reloj. Ya son las cinco de la tarde. 

Se regresaron por el pasillo y entraron a la  cocina. El lugar estaba muy bien iluminado, tenía dos grandes ventanales con unas cortinas de flores de margaritas que daban al frente desde donde se veía el estanque. Los mesa central era de madera pintada de blanco, con unas banquetas también de blanco. Todo estaba muy limpio. Las tacitas estaban colocadas boca abajo, sobre una bandeja de porcelana. Los platos y vasos en un gabinete de madera con puertas de vidrio. Sobre la mesa había un frasco grande de vidrio con dos galletas envueltas en papel celofán. 

—¡Mira  Simón! galletas de la fortuna.    —El rostro de Juliana se alegro como el de una niña ante una chupeta. 

—¡Ni se te ocurra abrir una y mucho menos comértela! No sabemos cuanto tiempo  llevan allí. 

 —No pensaba hacerlo Simón,  solo que me trajeron recuerdos de mi abuela. Ella nos traía cuando venia a visitarnos y nos divertíamos leyendo los mensajes. Y lo mas extraordinario es que siempre acertaban. 

Por supuesto que es así, allí está la trampa, los mensajes son de buena suerte, por ejemplo: algo bueno te ocurrirá, hoy vas a sonreír,  veras a alguien a quien amas, sigue tu intuición, etc. A cualquiera le puede ocurrir eso. 

—Yo prefiero creer  que son mensajes del futuro. 

—Te reto a que hagamos una prueba. Vamos a abrir las galletas. Una tu y otra yo. 

 —Ese juego no me gusta Simón y menos en esta casa. Y además ya dijiste que no sabíamos cuanto tiempo tendrían allí guardadas. 

 —¡Pero no la vamos a comer!, las abrimos y leemos el mensaje. 

La mirada retadora de Simón tras sus lentes  y la sonrisa burlona en su rostro delgado y moreno, terminaron por convencer a Juliana. 

—¡Está bien!vamos a hacerlo 

Juliana fue la primera, con la mano temblorosa abrió la tapa e introdujo la mano en el frasco y saco una galleta. Luego lo hizo Simón. 

El rostro de Juliana  palideció mientras leía. 

"Tienes que vencer el miedo" 

El mío dice 

"Corre detrás de tu sueño" 

 —Te lo dije no tienen nada de extraño. 

 —El tuyo no, pero el mío si, es inquietante. 

—Todo está en la mente Juliana no te sugestiones. Vamos a olvidarnos de esta tontería y terminemos de revisar la casa. 

Abrieron el primer cuarto. Allí habían dos camas pequeñas  y un escritorio. Era también  muy sencillo como el último y las ventanas estaban cerradas. El segundo  cuarto tenía una cama matrimonial con una cubierta de color amarillo. Sobre la mesa de noche había un jarrón de color negro con girasoles pintados.  

Juliana se había mantenido en la puerta. 

—No voy a entrar al cuarto, tengo una sensación extraña, como si tus abuelos estuvieran allí acostados. 

—Está bien,  quédate allí. Yo voy a revisar. 

Simón se acercó a la mesa de noche y abrió la gaveta. Allí encontró una carpeta con los papeles de la casa. La tomó y salió. 

—Vamos a la cocina. Creo que es lugar mas iluminado de la casa. Y me provoca un café y también tengo hambre. 

Mientras Juliana hacia el café y preparaba unos sándwiches,  Simón sentado en una banqueta leía los documentos. 

Allí estaba el documento de compra de la propiedad y las facturas de la mueblería. Dentro de estos papeles había también un sobre. 

Juliana había servido el café y los sándwiches sobre la mesa y se había acercado a Simón que había abierto el sobre y sacado un papel escrito a mano, el cual comenzó a leer.

*Nuestra destino ha estado determinado por lo que las personas llamarían azar, pero no ha sido así. Los mensajes que recibimos a través de las galletas de la fortuna, enviados por nuestros amigos, nos han traído hasta esta casa en la cual hemos permanecido el tiempo necesario para prepararnos para nuestro viaje. Sabemos que en este planeta nadie nos va a extrañar. Nuestra energía viajara muy lejos de aquí a otro mundo. 

Juliana no comprendía muy bien lo que estaba leyendo Simón. 

 —Tus abuelos se volvieron locos, pobres se dejaron sugestionar por los mensajes de las galletas y murieron por eso.  Tenías razón Simón. No puedo dejar que el miedo me domine. 

Pero Simón no la escuchaba. Estaba recordando algo que su abuelo le había dicho cuando era un niño y que lo había incentivado a estudiar las evidencias de vida en otros mundos.  Mira las estrellas Simón, parece que están muy lejos y no las podemos alcanzar, pero hay una manera de llegar hasta allá, solo tienes que soñarlo.
