Sometimes, simple activities in games can be so addictive that you start to question why a seemingly boring thing can give you so much joy. One such thing is mining resources in a video game. Especially in sandbox games where you can craft a lot of cool things, like Minecraft and the like. Once, I mined aimlessly for almost 3-4 hours without taking breaks. When I think about it now, why did I find it so calming and how 3-4 hours felt like half an hour? Maybe it was the joy of getting all the cool resources, maybe it was listening to your favourite songs or maybe the joy of discovery. 

When I first saw Minecraft, it seemed like a boring game on the surface, everything is blocks, you mine blocks, craft them into some other blocks, find more rare resources and use them to craft better tools and mine more resources. And then you can choose to build things. I didn't think it would be any fun, but when I first started my offline world many years ago, I played it for a while, but didn't like it. Then I came back to it and understood more things and started to see why games like this work. It is the progression system, the small dopamine hits that you get after finding rare items like diamonds. The sense of exploring and charting a randomly generated world, and so on.

So many things I like about the game, but the most enjoyable for me is still mining. I don't like building stuff, but I am just a big hoarder of things. I might be living in a mud house with a basement full of chests with rare items.

Looks like I went off on a tangent. Anyway, I wanted to share how much rare stuff you can get from mining in the Luanti game for about 3-4 hours with a Fortune III, Efficiency V, Diamond Pickaxe and a Silk Touch counterpart of it.

There were some very rare ores that I found in this mining session. I found only 1 deepslate emerald ore and 1 deepslate lapiz lazuli ore. Lapiz Lazuli was a big surprise. I don't think the spawn rate of that ore is this bad in Minecraft.

Here is the chest full of all the ores I found in this session. Many of them were mined by the non-silk touch pickaxes, too.

The most abundant of them is unsurprisingly coal, and then redstone. And I should mention that I was mining near the bedrock level, which is not too deep in the Luanti game, unlike Minecraft, where it can go for hundreds of blocks deep. 

There was plenty of iron too, which I thought was not found that much at this depth. I have to find out how the distribution of these ores changes when you go up 20 blocks high. I am expecting very few diamonds there but more coal, iron and gold. 



And I wasn't even doing the most efficient strategy of strip mining. I was just mining large chunks because I wanted to get the Cobbled deepslate as well for our walls and other building requirements.

The Deepslate and stones were used to craft many blocks that we used to build a wall around our base.

As I told you before, I don't like to spend my time building... I am more of a miner and explorer in this game, so it made sense that I delegated my work to Beril. She will take care of the building stuff. 


I am a bad Redstoner, but I can do a few simple things, like making an automatic door that opens and closes using pressure plates. Hiding the redstone dust and the circuit is the most annoying part of this stuff. 

I had to make a few changes to our gate design to cleverly hide a redstone circuit under it. Now, it looks way cleaner, I think. What do you think about it?

I added some small iron doors in other walls where the terrain was very uneven and a big door wouldn't make much sense. We have more plans moving forward, so let's see how it all ends up. For now, I might go back to mining more resources for those projects.
