We are in a new season of Splinterlands and what better way to start the season than by exterminating and developing new strategies with different cards? This week, we are focusing on an interesting unit called **Pelacor Deceiver**. This is a death unit in the Death element.
I have been using it for a while now but never talked about it so let's talk about its stats in detail.

**Pelacor Deceiver** is a common Death unit which came out in the chaos legion edition. It is a reward card and costs 5 mana.
I had a level 5 unit. It deals 2 melee damage with a good speed of 4. But the best part is its huge health of 10 hp. It also comes with the 'flying' ability which combined with good speed helps it dodge many attacks. So, it is a good unit to be used as a tank. I prefer to use it as my primary tank when I use it.
Let's see how I utilized it in one of my battles.

It was only a 33-mana battle and had 2 interesting rulesets:
- **Rise of the Commons** - Only Common and Rare monsters may be used in battles.
- **Armored Up** - All monsters have 2 armour in addition to their normal armour stats.
With only 33 mana and a restrictive ruleset like 'Rise of the Common', I had to utilize every drop of it carefully. Only fire, death and dragon elements were allowed during this battle.
I used the **Owster Rotwell** as my summoner, it gave the Magic reflect the ability to all the friendly units.

I used the **Pelacor Deceiver** in the first position. It works best in the first position as a tank. Its huge health of 10 and quick speed combined with the 'flying' ability makes it a good candidate for the tank. It also deals 2 melee attack damage so it was a good attacker as well.
In the next position, I used the **Riftwing**. It came with three interesting abilities: Flying, Scavenger and Backfire. All these made it a good choice for me as I intended it to be used as a secondary tank. The scavenger ability should make it last even longer.
Next was the **Cabalist**. This is a heavy magic attacker dealing 3 magic damage on its own and costs 7 mana. It comes with Amplify ability which is very useful in this battle as I was expecting my opponent to use magic attacker and my units will deal back damage because of the magic reflect ability given by my summoner.
**Life Sapper** was placed in the fourth position in my lineup. It was there to add to the attacking strength of my lineup. Its 2 magic attacks are very important also it only costs 3 mana so this was a no-brainer for me. It also comes with the 'Life Leecher' ability which overcomes the shortcoming of its low health.
Next was a similar unit, the **Venari Bonesmith**. It also came with the 'Life Leech' ability but dealt 1 magic attack only. But this was compensated with the 'Poison' ability. So, it was an easy decision for me to include this one.
Last but not least was the **Grim Reaper**. It costs only 6 mana and deals a heavy ranged attack of 4. But it has relatively lower health (4hp). It also comes with an 'affliction' ability. I placed it in the last position only because it was a ranged attacker.
Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

### My Strategy
One of the rulesets was "Armored Up" so I expected a lot of magic attackers from my opponent who will try to ignore that extra armour. I was ready for it and used the **Owster Rotwell** as my summoner which gave the magic reflect the ability to all the friendly units.
As it was only a 33 mana cap battle I had to use it effectively. I used a strong tank at the front of the lineup in the form of **Pelecor Deceiver** and **Riftwing**. Both of these units held the entire lineup and allowed the rest of the units to attack from the back line.
I also tried to use a balanced approach in this battle and not use all mages and become predictable.
This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me a nice win.

As I expected my opponent used a lot of mages but I was fully prepared and my strong frontline easily absorbed all the attacks while the units from the back did all the heavy lifting and granted me an easy win at the end.
This battle went on for 4 rounds but at no point, it looked like my opponent had any chance. The magic reflect ability and the strong tank proved to be a deadly combo during this battle.

## Conclusion
**Pelecor Deceiver** is an interesting unit that proved to be a strong tank in the battles. The above battle is evident and my opponent couldn't even manage to get through it in almost four rounds.
Its good speed and 'flying' ability makes it a good unit, especially against melee and ranged attacker. It comes with a lot of health so it takes a lot of beating to get through that. Also, costing only 5 mana for these stats is a good deal for me. Let me know what you think about this unit. Do you use it often?
