His name was called plants and cities. The Creator of the October revolution, the leader of the victorious red Army, Lenin's closest ally, a fierce fighter for the bright future of all mankind — comrade Leo Trotsky! But after his first achievements carelessly expressed sympathy for this man threatened with prison and even death.

Pavel Sudoplatov-one of the leaders of the operation "Duck", the purpose of which was to eliminate Trotsky - recalls: "for us Trotsky was the enemy number one, from this we proceeded."In the early morning of 24 may 1940, a group of armed militants broke into a house on the outskirts of Mexico city, where Trotsky lived. They fired about 200 bullets into the master bedroom. The grandson of Trotsky-Vsevolod-was then in the next room. Decades later, while on the scene, he remembered how it was:

"I screamed. I've been convinced that neither his grandfather, nor grandmother are no longer alive. But when I entered the room, I saw my grandparents hiding in the corner. We hugged and cried."

Vsevolod Volkov was 14 years old when he lived in his grandfather's house in Mexico city. His mother, Zinaida Volkova, the daughter of Trotsky from his first marriage, committed suicide in Berlin. The boy stayed in Mexico and eventually built a very prosperous life. But his relatives in Moscow she will not regret it.

Julia Axelrod — another granddaughter of Trotsky, daughter of Sergei Sedov-son of Trotsky from his second marriage. She was 14 too when she was sent to exile in Siberia with her mother's parents in the early fifties. And the mother at the time was serving a sentence in Kolyma. Famous grandfather at that time had long been dead, but the relationship with him was still dangerous.

How and why did one of the founders of the Soviet regime become its main enemy? In the country's history remains a classic the way "Judas", but the real biography of Trotsky is much more dramatic.
