Sorry to hear about the crypto loss. Yes, absolutely keep no coins on an exchange. Between hacks and exchanges going belly up, it is never wise. I suppose one day soon, the banks will get involved in crypto and perhaps there will be a little more regulations but who knows.

I hope that decentralized exchanges will become better technologically and more popular. There are some solutions in the works but support for everything to work the way that is helpful is not there yet.

I think the best way for steem to go forward is to find a way to allow us to directly purchase steem without having to go through any exchange. They could argue that they are offering a service, like say any video game company. When you buy steem, you are buying tokens that allow one to operate more fully on the block chain and we should be able to pay with our credit cards.
