One of the major thing about being an adult is decision making, ability to decide on what to do and how to do it, also weighing available options to choose the best. Being a grown up automatically means that you are solely responsible for yourself and your actions, which becomes your decision. You have no one to put the blame on, it's on you. 


Decision making can be hard at times especially when it concerns major areas of our life and leave us no escape route but to make a decision. Decisions like long term goals, who to marry, what to study or learn, choice of friends, how to balance school hour and work and spiritual (religious) activities, etc. can be quite demanding and needs a lot of consideration.

I often want to run away from responsibility but that's super impossible!. Who's gonna do  them for me, who's gonna add my responsibility to theirs?. I don't even want to share anyone's responsibility. And, when this responsibilities are neglected, you alone will bear the consequences and will still have to take on them and carry them on my shoulders, like a cross. 


My approach to making decisions is firstly based on level of importance and what area of life is the decision centered, then level of urgency. I might have to make a decision about studying and preparing for a test I have in 7 days time and also need to write a post here on Hive. Logically, the test is way more important than the post I want to write because I can't afford to fail but sitting down to write a post won't take me the whole day: I'd still be able to study that same day. Also, I'll be able to meet up with the prompt deadline before it expires,  secure my payout in the next 7 days. That's urgency, sometimes urgency can beat level of  importance. 


Theses days I have been applying enough wisdom and time to each time I need to decide on what to do and how to do it. Presently, I'm in my final year in the university. I have a project to submit in the next 10 days, I am to write from chapter 1 to 5 and I am working on review, that's a lot of downloads and reading plus other school activities like attending classes and preparing for tests. Asides being a student, I freelance as a Graphic designer, majorly visual identity designs, I am bass guitarist for a church. All these comes with different responsibilities and I can't run from any of them. 

I accept that I have to make a particular decision and no one is coming to help me do that: this way I condition my brain to be more focused on thinking for a solution rather than focusing on how stressful it might be. I weigh the options I have in view, the disadvantage and advantages, the span and effect that each option will have on me. 

Another thing that help me is that I bring myself into a consciousness of peace. Regardless of how troubling, stressful and demanding it will be, I try to find peace, pretend to not see the stress, challenges. I do this because making decisions when under pressure might not end up well, one might not be calm enough to think clearly, hence, making a wrong decision. Also, I make sure I don't postpone the time to contemplate on making a decision because I might forget till it's almost too late. I give very important things enough time because they have big effect on my life in the long run. 


Being an adult, you can't afford to be wrong, it is important to always get it right. I understand that we only figure it out by every step we take but any wrong step come with its own consequences.
