Even hackers are just humans. And they make sometimes hair-raising mistakes in their online attacks, which lead the law enforcement agencies straight on their trail.

Josh Holly is accused of hacking Miley Cyrus' internet site, known for her role as teen star Hannah Montana, to put provocative pictures of her online. Currently, the hacker is serving various prison sentences - but surprisingly not primarily for presenting reasonably permissive images of the then 15-year-old singer to the public.

Holly's conviction was mainly for a series of credit card theft. In August 2011, the hacker was found guilty of holding over 200 compromised credit card numbers. According to the FBI, Holly hacked into the MySpace accounts of various stars and then used their accounts to get hold of $ 100,000 from the fans and followers of the pages.

Holly posted publicly to have hacked Miley Cyrus' private mail account and stolen her private, revealing photos. These spread in no time over the entire Internet of course. In a conversation with the American technology magazine Wired, the hacker explained that he first hacked into an admin panel on MySpace and found a simple text document with passwords. As a next step, he tried Miley's MySpace password on a Google Mail account she used and it worked.

Even if Holly was never specifically charged for the Miley incident, it was he who lured the authorities to his tracks first. The FBI followed the traces left by the hacker and stormed his home in Tennessee. They confiscated his computer and found the necessary information. The hacker expects a possible imprisonment of up to ten years and a fine of the equivalent of about 200,000 euros.
