With no less than two series finishing up at the same time it's time to get going with a new one. While Siren Head was supposed to be a horror game it wasn't really scary. Time to turn that around with an actually scary game, namely Layers of Fear.

I've had this game in my sight for quite some time and I was quite surprised to see it in my library while randomly looking through it one day. I must have claimed it for free on the Epic Games Store some time ago and just completely forgotten about it. Happy day! The game isn't all that long either so I decided it was perfect for a let's play series.

I didn't know much about this game going into it apart from it being a horror game set in a mad painters house. I know from the marketing screenshots that it's gonna be quite an artistic and psychedelic experience and I'm expecting a lot of jump scares.

This first episode didn't really reflect much of that but it did a good job of setting the scene for the episodes going forward. I guess we got to see the house in its normal state before descending into the depths of the mad painters mind.

We find a couple of notes and other lore items that help us paint a picture (pun intendid) of what the story will be about. For some reason the painter is scratching out all the mentions of his name is newspapers. There's gonna be some stuff about a fire eventually and since we found that note in front of a smashed mirror I'm anticipating someone hating themselves over having lost their once beautiful face.

There also seems to be some sort of argument going on between the painter and his wife. That's probably gonna be a major plot point going forward and I bet we're gonna see something from their child. Babies always make scary games even scarier. Damn horror babies. 

The game seems to be a but of a walking simulator if you can call it that. There's not really any mechanics involved apart from walking around, looking at stuff and interacting with some minor objects. There's no fighting or anything like that involved. This game is more of a visual experience. 

I'm really looking forward to releasing more episodes of this series. It's gonna be a series of seven episodes with two bonus episodes to of the DLC. It turns into one hell of a ride starting already in the next episode. Will you hear me scream? Yes. Will you hear me cry? I hope not.
