I'm going to try out this new series discussing some of the weirdest and crazy things if seen on the Deep Web. I'll mostly be talking about .onion sites, but I may occasionally touch on other topics. Story #1: Double your Bitcoin

Now if you've been on the hidden wiki, you've probably seen a plethora of financial sites that claim they can multiply your number of bitcoins by 2, or 10, or even 100 by exploiting a flaw in the bitcoin architecture. All you need to do is send then some bitcoin, and they'll send you back a multiple of that amount! Oh, and it only works if you send more than 0.2 bitcoin.

These sites are designed to trick the dumbest of the dumb deep web users. You might think that nobody could possibly be dumb enough to send hundreds of dollars to these sites. However, many of these sites do manage to make a few bitcoin a year.  

Some of these bitcoin scam sites on the deep web are more convincing than others, so I've complied two questions to ask yourself before you even consider to send any amount of money to a site:

1) If they can't make a decent looking website, what are the chances that they actually have the technical know-how to complete the service they claim to perform?
2) If they are telling you the truth about their service, then why do they need you?

With the two questions above, you can remove around 95% of the "financial sites" listed on the hidden wiki and consider them scams. The remaining sites you should still approach with caution. While there are some Bitcoin mixers on the deep web that are reliable, it doesn't hurt to perform a clear web search of the website to determine if it is a scam. Additionally, ask yourself why you are using the site. Is it a shortcut that seems to good to be true? Probably a scam.

In my opinion, it  is better to avoid deep web bitcoin sites all together. There are plenty of clear web sites to perform bitcoin services. Don't try to cheat your way to more bitcoin, work hard for them. You have a much better chance of not losing the bitcoins you have worked hard to earn!
