Strolling Down Memory lane
Do we ever sit back and give any thought to the capacity of the human mind to store and retrieve information?

If we do and have any grasp at all of its remarkable ability to help us relive special moments of our lives, how does that hold up over time?

Okay, this Silver Blogger doesn't want to talk about that too much either. πŸ˜‰&#160;  In my blog here, though, I thought you might enjoy a quick glimpse into what I have been working on for one near and dear.&#160;  Intended as a special gift in the not too distant future.

<h2><div class="phishy"><strong><em><strong><em>Brief</em></strong></em></strong></div>&#160; Backstory</h2>

With the relentless advance of technology in our time in human history, am I alone in saying it seems to be almost impossible to keep up with it?&#160;  However we might answer, most of us likely have our version of a similar approach.

Focus on what seems to be the most important and of greatest value to us.

For me, I have known about what are now commonly called <a href="https://www.digitaltrends.com/home/best-digital-photo-frames/" target="_blank">digital photo frames</a> for years.&#160;  Early on, when combining their limited features and fancy price, I was intrigued with the idea, but had no interest.&#160;  By now, we have learned these most of digital device ideas will continue to get better with competition and over time the survivors of this winnowing process will be mass produced bringing the cost to us down.

The "sweet spot" will vary for each of us.&#160;  For me, it has been reached over the last several months.  The remarkable number of options and their relatively inexpensive price for very high quality output today is hard to pass up.

On a parallel track, when we think about how far smart phones have come, in terms of the quality of the digital images and sounds they can capture, being able to <a href="https://www.frameo.com/plus/" target="_blank">pair them up</a> with these digital photo frames creates an opportunity difficult to resist.

Photo frame.&#160;  Did I mention these devices can also support short video clips? πŸ’–

Our ever shrinking world significantly reduces the challenge of interacting with those near and dear.  As a gift, this digital device holds a lot of promise.

<h2><div class="phishy"><strong><em>Memory</em></strong></div>&#160; Lane!</h2>

We've likely all read about people who are born with a photographic memory.  Have you ever known one of them?&#160;  I never have, but I assume there really are those who have this amazing ability.

The rest of us?

I like to think I have a pretty good memory.&#160;  But, I know memories can seem to be more or less dormant, for a very long time, before something stimulates them coming back up into our conscious thought processes.&#160;  At those times, do they not seem like they just happened the other day?&#160;

In our younger years, did looking at a photo album provide a common example of how this works?

Having one of these digital photo frames takes this whole concept to another level.&#160;  Particularly when you experience short video clips, with sight and sound, at more than minimally acceptable levels of quality.

Simulating being there yourself?

No, not yet, but one can only wonder at the speed with which these changes to what is possible are coming.&#160;  We might have to wait a week or two.  πŸ˜‰

Strolling down memory lane just got a lot easier.&#160;  I do not think it takes much imagination to appreciate how much of an aide to that these new devices represent.

Gift giving is a commonly experienced aspect of the lives of most of us.

An inescapable part of it is experiencing the associated expectations and perceptions.&#160;  We may be very pleased with our idea of what we think our gift to a dear one is going to mean to them.&#160;  Expectations are raised, based on our perception.

I've been on both sides of gift giving: I enjoy giving good gifts to my friends and family, especially my children.  But I also delight in thoughtful gifts I have received.  It can be humbling at times, I very much prefer giving.

Yes, receiving gifts can be humbling, @gratefuleveryday.  Many have experienced their version of that truth.  I think it is a revealing experience, in which we might honestly ask ourselves why that is the case.

Giving can also have its drawbacks, depending upon the intent behind the gift.  Probably most generally stated as what the giver is expecting in return.  I touched on that very lightly by suggesting a key word applies.  Expectations.

In my case, the gift mentioned is a mechanism to support giving and receiving, as it makes possible a network of dear ones to share photos and videos with others they may seldom, if ever, be able to visit.

At least that is my expectation.  We'll find out how that works out.

This is a brilliant idea.  I've been using google photos to preserve images from my phone and share them with my parents.  But it might be nice to have a "shared" space that can be managed.

I work with my hands, so I my perception on giving gifts is somewhat biased. I'd rather make something. It could be a box, jewelry, a cane, it doesn't matter, it just has to be made by me. That way I'm not competing, per se. That way you'd know I care.

Looking into the eyes of a child, who has worked hard to create such a gift, quickly comes to mind.

In her time, I have given meaningful gifts to a friend, things like necklaces and bracelets with ornaments that reflect her personality. 
Sometimes I was more creative, I wrote her letters. But that was a long time ago. 

I haven't received gifts or given gifts for several months now.

Interesting, I got my parents a digital frame years ago. it must have been 20 years ago. They were really impressed, yet another thing that needing plugging into the wall to work!

As for gifts, I much prefer giving, but as we age I don't really care for gifts for special occasions. I love the little things and would rather buy Mrs T a plant I saw reduced in the shop on a given day than searching for a special present on a birthday for example. 

Gifts handmade are the best in my eyes!

Wow, 20 years ago?  I did not know they existed that far back.  In working on getting this brand new one set up, as mentioned in my post, the "sweet spot" I referenced seems to be confirmed, so far.

It will be preloaded, once the gift is given.  A starter set of sorts, of memories for a dear one's quiet times.  Supposedly it can hold ~60,000, so that ought to keep them out of trouble for awhile.  Hahaha ...

Agreed little gifts like plants or anything which is an indication of us thinking of the encouragement of someone else is always nice.  No need to wait for special occasions.  Just the element of surprise by itself has to have some value to the recipient.
