Inspiration can sometimes be very annoying. It comes when you least need it and disappears when you require it the most. At times all you need is to look outside the window to get a good idea, other times you need hours and hours to get anything at all.

I've been a writer for quite a while now and I've been trying to solve my "lack of inspiration" problem for a long time. I tried everything I knew - from watching more movies and reading more books to consuming more content, playing more video games, talking to more people, going outside more, and so on.

All those things work, up to a certain point, but there's nothing that I can repeatedly do that will inspire me enough to always find something to write about within minutes.

In my latest article called "An enemy of productivity" I talked about how aimlessly surfing the internet in search of inspiration is often nothing but a waste of time, and it can do nothing for you except to provide shallow and temporary entertainment that will disappear as soon as you close your laptop, computer, or phone.

So, what's to be done? What can you do to always be inspired, or at least to find inspiration quicker, without having to waste hours and hours thinking and exploring?

Well, I don't really have an answer to those questions. I don't know how to always be inspired. It's very difficult to always come up with something to write about, or something to create, and it's hard for me to believe that there's one thing that everybody must do in order to always get ideas for their content.

I did, however, come up with an idea very recently that I might put into practice that could, potentially, allow me to become inspired much faster than before.

For this to work I will have to use a piece of software that is actually made for artists called PureRef.

If you've never heard of this software before, it's basically a canvas where you can paste images, to use as references for drawing, or modelling, or things like that. It's great for artists because instead of having to save all their images in a folder and browse through them individually, they can paste them all on the canvas and zoom in and out an each one, moving from one image to another, all without switching images or software.

This piece of software can be quite useful to me. I find quite a lot of useful things online that have the potential of giving me an idea. I read quite a lot of books that contain interesting paragraphs and ideas. And I stumble upon quite a few amazing quotes online almost on a daily basis.

I tried to write some of those things before on agendas or notebooks in an attempt to create a personal library of knowledge that I could browse through when I would be in need of an idea. However, this method can be quite impractical. I'd need dozens of agendas, with hundreds of pages, and every time I'd be looking for inspiration I would have to go through multiple agendas and multiple ideas individually hoping that I'll find what I need.

Using a software such as PureRef will allow me to put all that into a single place, and browse through that personal library without leaving the software and without having to go through each item individually. Besides, since it's all in digital format, I could have that library with me at all times on multiple devices.

The only downside is that since PureRef is made for artists, it only allows users to add in pictures, at least as far as I know. This means that I won't be able to just write things and add them. However, I could just take screenshots of the text I need and add them to the library when I want to. I can also just write down the text I want and save it as a PNG or JPG when I need to.

Will this work? Will this allow me to get ideas faster? I have no idea. But it's something that I should definitely try, and something that you might find useful as well. Having a library of interesting pieces of information is great, and using a software that makes browsing through them easy is even better.
