This time I have in my hands the book **Centipede**, an anthology of micro-stories compiled by Neus Rotger and Fernando Valls, based on their work as editors of the literary magazine Quimera, published in Spain. The selection of microfictions in Spanish is interesting because, since the rise of Augusto Monterroso, several renowned writers, both in Latin America and Spain, have contributed to this genre.

The micro-story is the youngest genre of short stories. In some lines, concise and intense stories are presented, here the narrators must construct their proposals with few words, thus requiring an attentive reader, capable of deciphering the whole message.

From the book I chose four stories that I liked. David Lagmanovich in **Scriptures** gives us a fresh story about the complex craft of the writer. The words declare themselves in rebellion so that the character can write a story of conventional dimension and even a novel. The hand continues with its obsession for short fictions, but the man lives with the worry that he may be wounded in the jugular for not abiding by "the pre-established rules". This is a text full of irony that defends this literary genre, as valid as any other. And the fact is that using language in such a way as to provoke sensations is an art, whether on one page or on a thousand.

Likewise, in **The passage of time** by Pablo Urbanyi, the narrator immerses us in a marriage corroded by everyday life. The story calls for reflection in the sense that life is ephemeral and spending it in an unpleasant coexistence would not be the right thing to do. The concept of love and the pillars that support the marital relationship are usually dynamic and it is there where time also intervenes to assume priorities when the existential decline is appreciated.

For his part, José Balza in **Rembrandt** gives us a metafictional micro-story, the scene is very clear, the suffering and agony of Saskia, wife of the Dutch painter Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, who is presented as the main character. The narrator focuses on the painter, making a portrait of her in this hard stage for both of them, which is very touching.

Finally, in **Defecto de fábrica** by author León Febres - Cordero, we find a metaphor that uses the experience of a man traveling on a cruise ship. The reader must cooperate and enter a fictional universe where the narrator describes it brilliantly: "All this, of course, is not really happening. The passenger evokes it, while the ship sails with serene majesty across the ocean. Therein lies the enigma of the defect, which is the ship's but manifests itself in the passenger." Through the artifice of fiction, the reader may be able to move through the world by means of words. It is the magic of transforming written referents into mental images, which is why one can enjoy multiple dimensions and also provoke diverse emotions such as laughter and tears.

When I was before the stories of Augusto Monterroso, his most famous is **The Dinosaur**, my curiosity for the genre of micro-stories rose, for that reason, besides acquiring an anthology of this great writer, I got this book **Centipede** and from there I began to investigate the theory about this type of stories because certainly most of them have the elements of a story, although its length is only one or two pages.

Del libro elegí cuatro narraciones que fueron de mi agrado. David Lagmanovich en **Escrituras** nos regala una historia fresca sobre el complejo oficio del escritor. Las palabras se declaran en rebeldía para que el personaje escriba un cuento de dimensión convencional e, incluso una novela. La mano sigue con su obsesión por las ficciones breves, pero el hombre vive con la inquietud de que pueda ser herido en la yugular por no acatar "las normas preestablecidas". Este es un texto lleno de ironía que defiende este género literario, tan válido como cualquier otro. Y es que utilizar el lenguaje de tal modo que provoque sensaciones es todo un arte, ya sea en una página o en mil.

Asimismo, en **El paso del tiempo** de Pablo Urbanyi, el narrador nos sumerge en un matrimonio corroído por la cotidianidad. El relato llama a la reflexión en el sentido de que la vida es efímera y gastarla en una convivencia desagradable no sería lo adecuado. El concepto de amor y los pilares que sostienen la relación marital suelen ser dinámicos y es allí donde el tiempo también interviene para asumir prioridades cuando se aprecia el ocaso existencial.

Por su parte, José Balza en **Rembrandt** nos regala un microcuento metaficcional, la escena está muy clara, el sufrimiento y agonía de Saskia, esposa del pintor neerlandés Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, quien es presentado como el personaje principal. El narrador se enfoca en el pintor realizando un retrato de ella en esta etapa tan dura para ambos lo que resulta muy conmovedor.  

Por último, en **Defecto de fábrica** del autor León Febres - Cordero, nos encontramos con una metáfora que utiliza la experiencia de un hombre que viaja en un crucero. El lector debe cooperar y entrar en un universo de ficción donde el narrador lo describe de forma brillante: "Todo esto, por supuesto, no está ocurriendo en realidad. El pasajero lo evoca, mientras el barco surca con serena majestad el océano. He ahí lo enigmático del defecto, que es del barco pero se manifiesta en el pasajero". Mediante el artificio de la ficción, el lector puede ser capaz de desplazarse por el mundo mediante las palabras. Es la magia de transformar los referentes escritos en imágenes mentales, por eso se puede disfrutar de múltiples dimensiones y también de provocar diversas emociones tales como la risa y el llanto.

Cuando estuve ante los cuentos de Augusto Monterroso, su más célebre es **El dinosaurio**, se elevó mi curiosidad por el género de los microrrelatos, por tal razón, además de adquirir una antología de este gran escritor, conseguí este libro **Ciempiés** y a partir de allí comencé a indagar en la teoría sobre este tipo de relatos porque ciertamente la mayoría tienen los elementos de un cuento, aunque su extensión sea de apenas una o dos páginas.
