What If It Only Took One Post? Let's Start a Ripple

We’ve reached a point in our society where we are constantly being told that we need government to take care of us and even think for us. Students at some of the best Universities are demanding “safe places” in an effort to shut out a world that may disagree with their particular point of view. <br><br> Not too many years ago churches and communities joined together to help the poor and to uplift families that were in need. Now our society is being taxed more and more so that an even larger percentage of our earnings remains in the hands of our government. The government has all but said that they know better how to spend our money than we do. Unfortunately, many in our society have bought into this idea and have become increasingly dependent on government. <br><br>What if we could change all of that at Steemit?  We have the power of our Steemit votes which may empower anyone in the world to profit. We have already seen some examples of this where a single post makes a difference in the life of the writer.  In a world where everyone seems to be protesting, would it not be amazing to introduce them to the power of the pen?  <br><br>In this case, it would be the Steem power of the pen. While it’s easy to think we can not make a difference and that we are only a small pebble on the beach, perhaps that pebble can start a ripple.  When the tragic police shootings happened in Dallas, I think the entire country was shaken to the core. People were at a loss as to how to offer comfort in the face of such tragedy. One man, determined to offer some kind of peace to the people of Dallas, simply pulled his piano to police headquarters and began to play “Imagine”.  I thought this was an incredible moment. <br><br> I think we can have hundreds of moments like this on Steemit. Let’s face it, we have a community, our own currency, and our vote. Let’s use the power of our votes to empower people all over the world. Wouldn’t that be a great way to start your day?</p>

As someone who has been blogging for a better part of a decade I've thought a lot about the impact of our words and the "one post' mantra.

It's easy to get caught up in the world of content and pretend "words' don't matter, when in reality they do.

The most sobering email I ever received from a reader from my blog said that my post on my struggle with depression and addiction prevented him from committing succeed. Seriously, I'm so grateful. 

It's truly humbling to know that people from around the world are sharing their thoughts and ideas  and people are resonating with those thoughts, words, and stories.

There is of course a ton of noise, but as an optimist I believe deep down that the more people share their story the better off we as humans will be.

words are powerful whether they are put to paper, the screen or spoken they are central to communication. How we use them makes a world of difference. I knew a lady who spent her day doing small kindnesses for others from something as simple as sharing a news clipping to sitting with a person and holding their hand when they could not speak. I often referred to her as a person with a ministry of small kindness. Our words in our posts can so make a difference, even if in some small way to a single person.
