SEC is the big monster coming after lots of crypto projects, and rumour has it that they might just consider Ethereum a security, just like XRP is battling SEC in court, because SEC accused ripple lab, the company that issued XRP, of issuing XRP as a security. Here lies the question, was XRP issued as a security or as a commodity? It seems like same case might be building for ETH, as SEC is the crypto bully in the digital asset space. First of all we need to understand what a security is and what a commodity is.  [source](https://unsplash.com/photos/geJHvrH-CgA) Security is buying an asset that tends to give you owning right of a specific company or an investment, this means that you own part of the company, while a commodity is buying an asset with intentions that it can be traded in the market. So technically its a commodity, because owning or buying ETH doesn’t give you owning right of the entire Ethereum blockchain. Buying ETH is buying a commodity to be traded on the open market, just like buying gold, gold is a commodity, it can be traded, but buying a shares in a gold mining company can be considered a security because you are investing and owning part of the company which is leveraging on the working effort of others(miners or workers) using your money as an investment. Which means that people have to put in effort into working to mine gold which generates profit for you as an investor. But is that the case for ethereum? Ethereum is not a company where you can invest to be ripping the effort of workers. You can buy the coin which is ETH and trade it, that doesn’t give you owning right of the Ethereum Blockchain, but what do you do when the SEC comes for ETH? You just have to stay safe with your investment, reasons why I have decided to consider diversifying most of assets into completely decentralised anonymous assets like Hive, BTC and the rest, because, as long as SEC knows the developers, they can sue them and hit them with security law suit. Look at what SEC did to BUSD through PAXOS because they are not decentralised, same goes to ripple. If SEC comes for ETH we are going to see the price fall and you wouldn’t want to experience. Cryptocurrency doesn't fall within the current regulatory framework. The SEC is trying to put a square peg through a round hole. People care less and less what the SEC thinks about crypto with each day that passes.
