My First Time Using A Miter Saw - I Built A Moveable Chicken Coop

<p>I built &nbsp;my chicks little mobile house by myself! Two people can easily move the cage around the property, it was pretty heavy though. Next time I build a mobile coop I will use lighter materials. <a href="http://www.ana-white.com/2012/05/plans/frame-chicken-coop">All the directions I had were a picture I found on the net from Ana's site.</a> You can find the diagram, material needed, and measurements included with my photos.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I spent $100.00 on material and used the coop for the summer before we moved. I sold the coop for $50.00 as no one in our neighborhood wanted to buy a chicken coop. Most people here in the suburbs of Tulsa when I first arrived last year thought I was crazy growing a garden and owning a few chickens. Now I walk around the neighborhood and I can hear hens going off after laying eggs. That is so awesome!</p>
<p>The coop can fit six hens with 2 laying boxes. I have ten hens, when we decided to move, I decided to keep the four hens I was going to give away. We found a nice house with a large outbuilding that turned into a very nice chicken coop.</p>
<p>I never built the laying boxes in this little mobile coop because our pullets hadn't started laying until after our move.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I had a blast doing something I never imagined myself doing. When I get a chance and more room I wouldn't mind building a bigger coop someday.&nbsp;</p>
<p>My 10 hens are now grown and give us anywhere from 5 to 10 eggs a day through the summer and a least two eggs a day through the fall. I can't believe some of my hens are still laying, the Barred Rocks and Black Sex Links are still laying a couple eggs a week.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The chicken poop is used in my garden and my hens gladly weed and patrol for bugs, they are also great company. I have one hen, we call Ragamuffin, who loves to sit on my lap and stick her head under my armpit. I guess that is the way chickens cuddle or maybe she is just a weird chicken.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I used plans I found on the net for free.</p>

<p>Went and picked up some lumber at our local Lowe's home improvement store.<img src="https://scratchliving.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/image12-e1477516899528.jpeg" width="600" height="803"/></p>
<p>Figured out how to use a Miter Saw for the first time and struggled with angels, I mean angles. I chased all the angels away with all my cursing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Figured out how much chicken wire I needed after I got the walls framed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Put the frame pieces together, I had no problem using nails and hammer, I grew up on a farm so no big deal using those tools.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Cut the plywood with a &nbsp;skill saw, I think that's what you call this thing. Circular saws are really easy to use but they sure are loud!</p>

<p>The hardest part was getting all my angels, I mean angles to line up. I didn't get everything perfect but it all came together pretty easy.</p>

<p>I wanted the doors to open from the base so I wouldn't smash any chicks if they accidentally slammed shut. The instructions wanted the opposite, attached at the roof.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Figuring out the door was interesting, but fun. I had to kind of jimmy everything together, but it worked.</p>

It was a blast, I felt such a thrill holding onto the powerful miter saw and figuring out how to build something all by myself. There are all sorts of easy DIY chicken houses that aren't as ambitious as this one.

Omg! Right! I love power tools and men that understand my need for a sharp blade, I also love knives of all kinds. I took French foil in college, yeah, weapons, sharp ones are also on my list of power tools. My husband just stands back and doesn't get me angry....he is the computer nerd and couldn't fix anything mechanical, total software nerd...haha

My ultimate workshop would probably be a huge garage where I could have a sound studio on one side, a huge work top for my husband because he loves to do architectural drawing and build models, and the rest for tools.  Giant tools that make lots of noise.  LOL  Actually, I've always wanted to design and build my own furniture...something I've never been able to pursue because of space, funds and time.  But now that I'm practically an empty-nester, that dream could become a reality...  one day.  :)  I'm still looking for the perfect piece of land to build our final home.  Ahhhh....  
Your hubby sounds very much like how my father was.  I think part of the reason I'm mechanical was to prevent him from destroying the house when I was younger.  LOL
