Now this is a very interesting video! Ataturk is actually a title; his name was Mustafa Kemal, and he was like the George Washington of Turkey. With the help of his comrades, he accomplished the herculean task of converting the old Ottoman Empire into the modern Turkish state. This meant both converting a monarchy into a democracy, and changing a religious state into a secular one. Yes, as surprising as it may be when we look at Turkey today under Erdogan, Ataturk originally setup the modern Turkish state as a purely secular republic.

Mustafa Kemal also did a great deal to bring women into a state of equality. He even sponsored the training of women as fighter pilots. Incredible as it may sound, Turkey was the first nation to have women as military pilots, clear back in the 1920's, though the USSR was close behind.
