¡Hola comunidad de amantes del manga y el anime!
Durante las últimas semanas, les he compartido sobre la experiencia del Selfshipping y la pareja que cree para participar en las actividades con uno de los personajes de la serie de anime "Daiku Maryu Gaiking" también conocida como "El Gladiador". Hice una pequeña reseña del anime para ponerlos en contexto de qué se trata la serie, ya que es un anime de finales de los 70´s.
Esta semana, quisiera compartirles un poco sobre los personajes del bando de los buenos sin hacer muchos spoilers para aquellos que estén interesados en ver la serie, antes de comenzar a compartir historias sobre Pete e Ylia. Así van conociendo a los personajes que interacturán con ellos.
¡Empecemos con ellos!
Al primero que conoceremos es a ***Brando Drumond o Sanshiro Tsuwabuki*** en la versión original. Brando inicia como un jugador de beisbol quien está recién saliendo de las ligas menores a las mayores y es toda una estrella. Después de un lamentable incidente, recibe una lesión que corta su carrera como beisbolista y es enrolado por el Dr. Diamond como el piloto del robot El Gladiador. Brando es bastante inquieto e impulsivo. Desde el primer día, tiene choques con Pete, ya que éste último es muy estricto y Brando no se apega al seguimiento de las instrucciones con facilidad. También encontramos que Brando es un joven bastante sensible y empático hasta con los enemigos. Brando posee super habilidades, lo cual a veces es usado en las batallas contra los robots enemigos.
Pasemos ahora a hablar sobre el ***Dr. Diamond o Dr. Diamonji***. Es un científico de renombre y creador del Gran Dragón del Espacio, el Gladiador y las otras naves que apoyan en combate. También fue quien reclutó a todos los miembros de la tripulación para formar un frente que pudiera evitar los planes de conquista de la Tierra de Darío El Grande. A pesar que no se menciona en la serie, su posición en la tripulación es la de un Comandante de Operaciones. Es un gran estratega y nada se hace sin ser consultado primero con él.
El siguiente miembro de la tripulación es ***Pete Richardson***. Es un joven norteamericano con el rango de Capitán del Gran Dragón del Espacio. Su personalidad es muy cerrada, disciplinada y estricta consigo mismo por lo que exige lo mismo a los demás. En la serie, se muestra que tiene un hermano menor llamado Tom quien revela a los demás miembros el pasado trágico que hizo que su hermano cambiara tanto y se convirtiera en la persona que es actualmente. Pete reporta directamente al Dr. Diamond y es un excelente piloto. Muchas batallas las ganó directamente con el Gran Dragón del Espacio sin la intervención de Brando y el Gladiador. En mi opinión personal, él era más calificado para ser el piloto del Gladiador, pero al no tener super habilidades, no era candidato para el uso del robot.
Ahora, hablemos de ***Tonina o Yamagakake***. Es un luchador de sumo japonés, quien es agregado al grupo para convertirse en el especialista de combate terrestre como el piloto del Jet Tanque. Tonina demuestra tener una gran habilidad para combate cuerpo a cuerpo. A simple vista parece muy estricto pero realmente tiene muy buen corazón y es el personaje que pone las situaciones chistosas. Una debilidad de él es que no sabe nadar.
Y ya que hablamos de operaciones terrestres, ahora mencionemos a ***Robert o Bunta Hayami***, el especialista de operaciones marinas y piloto del Super Caracol. Al igual que Tonina, Robert tiene una contextura física fuerte, sin embargo, es un excelente nadador y un personaje que, aunque se mantiene muy bajo de perfil, demuestra ser muy valiente y ha salvado a Brando en oportunidades donde incluso su propia vida estuvo en riesgo.
Para las operaciones aéreas, el encargado es ***Fan-Li*** quien es el piloto del Skyler. Es un campeón mundial de boxeo patada de origen Hongkonés. Tiene un hermano llamado San-Li quien estuvo perdido por muchos años. Fan-Li se convierte en un gran amigo de Brando y se podría decir que su relación es fraternal. Él lo protege hasta del mismo Pete cuando es demasiado estricto con él y siempre se ofrece incondicionalmente a darle soporte en las operaciones.
Hablemos ahora de un personaje quien es considerado el cerebro de las operaciones: ***Gene Sykon***. Es un joven genio, con una inteligencia muy superior que incluso asombró a los enemigos. Es el ayudante del Dr. Diamond y segundo al mando de la nave. Gene es un muchacho bastante discreto, amable, humilde y, a pesar de ser tan inteligente, no hace alarde de sus habilidades. Es huérfano de padre quien murió durante una investigación dejándole un diario y un pendiente que Gene porta desde el inicio de la serie y se convierte en una pieza clave más adelante.
***Marissa Morgan o Midori Fuyiyama***, es la encargada de comunicaciones del Gran Dragón del Espacio. Fue adoptada por el Dr. Diamond quien la encontró perdida y llorando siendo una niña y la crió como a su propia hija. Todos los miembros de la tripulación están enamorados de ella (sí, hasta Pete aunque él lo disimula muy bien) y quien es más obvio con sus sentimientos es Tonina. A pesar que está interesada en Brando, también suele demostrar cierto interés por Pete y curiosamente, en la serie se hacen muchas interacciones forzadas con él.
Y por último, tenemos el miembro de la tripulación más joven: ***Johnny o Hachiro***. Es un niño de unos 6-8 años de edad también huérfano y bajo la custodia del Dr. Diamond. Es un gran admirador de Brando y su mayor aspiración es convertirse en un piloto. Johnny a veces, en medio de su inocencia, es quien hace ver a los demás, cosas bastante obvias que los otros no pueden darse cuenta en el momento.

Hello manga and anime lovers community!
Over the past few weeks, I have shared with you about the experience of self-shipping and the couple I created to participate in activities with one of the characters from the anime series "Daiku Maryu Gaiking," also known as "The Gladiator." I made a brief review of the anime to give you context about what the series is about, as it is an anime from the late 70s.
This week, I would like to share a bit about the characters on the good side without giving too many spoilers for those interested in watching the series, before I start sharing stories about Pete and Ylia. This way, you can get to know the characters that will interact with them.
Let’s start with them!
The first character we will meet is ***Brando Drumond, or Sanshiro Tsuwabuki*** in the original version. Brando starts as a baseball player who is just moving up from the minor leagues to the majors and is a real star. After a tragic incident, he suffers an injury that cuts short his baseball career and is recruited by Dr. Diamond as the pilot of the robot The Gladiator. Brando is quite restless and impulsive. From day one, he clashes with Pete, as the latter is very strict and Brando does not easily adhere to following instructions. We also find that Brando is a very sensitive and empathetic young man, even towards enemies. Brando possesses super abilities, which are sometimes used in battles against enemy robots.
Now let’s talk about ***Dr. Diamond, or Dr. Diamonji***. He is a renowned scientist and creator of the Great Space Dragon, the Gladiator, and the other ships that support combat. He was also the one who recruited all the crew members to form a front that could thwart the conquest plans of Earth by Dario the Great. Although it is not mentioned in the series, his position in the crew is that of Operations Commander. He is a great strategist, and nothing is done without consulting him first.
The next crew member is ***Pete Richardson***. He is a young American with the rank of Captain of the Great Space Dragon. His personality is very reserved, disciplined, and strict with himself, which is why he demands the same from others. In the series, it is shown that he has a younger brother named Tom, who reveals to the other members the tragic past that caused his brother to change so much and become the person he is today. Pete reports directly to Dr. Diamond and is an excellent pilot. Many battles were won directly with the Great Space Dragon without the intervention of Brando and the Gladiator. In my personal opinion, he was more qualified to be the pilot of the Gladiator, but since he does not have super abilities, he was not a candidate for the use of the robot.
Now, let’s talk about ***Tonina, or Yamagakake***. He is a Japanese sumo wrestler who is added to the group to become the ground combat specialist as the pilot of the Jet Tank. Tonina shows great skill in hand-to-hand combat. At first glance, he seems very strict, but he actually has a good heart and is the character that brings the funny situations. One of his weaknesses is that he cannot swim.
And since we are talking about ground operations, let’s mention ***Robert, or Bunta Hayami***, the marine operations specialist and pilot of the Super Snail. Like Tonina, Robert has a strong physique; however, he is an excellent swimmer and a character who, although he keeps a low profile, proves to be very brave and has saved Brando on occasions where even his own life was at risk.
For aerial operations, the one in charge is ***Fan-Li***, who is the pilot of the Skyler. He is a world champion kickboxer of Hong Kong origin. He has a brother named San-Li who was lost for many years. Fan-Li becomes a great friend of Brando, and it could be said that their relationship is fraternal. He protects him even from Pete when he is too strict with him and always unconditionally offers to support him in operations.
Now let’s talk about a character who is considered the brain of the operations: ***Gene Sykon***. He is a young genius with intelligence far superior that even astonished the enemies. He is Dr. Diamond's assistant and second-in-command of the ship. Gene is a rather discreet, kind, humble boy, and despite being so intelligent, he does not boast about his abilities. He is an orphan whose father died during research, leaving him a diary and a pendant that Gene has carried since the beginning of the series, which becomes a key piece later on.
***Marissa Morgan, or Midori Fuyiyama***, is the communications officer of the Great Space Dragon. She was adopted by Dr. Diamond, who found her lost and crying as a child and raised her as his own daughter. All the crew members are in love with her (yes, even Pete, although he hides it very well), and the one who is most obvious with his feelings is Tonina. Although she is interested in Brando, she also shows some interest in Pete, and curiously, in the series, there are many forced interactions with him.
And finally, we have the youngest crew member: ***Johnny, or Hachiro.*** He is a boy about 6-8 years old, also an orphan and under the care of Dr. Diamond. He is a big fan of Brando, and his greatest aspiration is to become a pilot. Sometimes, in his innocence, he is the one who points out quite obvious things that the others do not realize at the moment.
And that’s a brief summary of the crew of the Great Space Dragon. I hope you enjoyed it and have a basic idea of who they are. The images accompanying the article are screenshots for your reference. I have made fan art of them and will share it on another occasion.
