<p>Last Saturday evening, I was forced by a bouncer to think of the urgent need for a national blockchain. One on which you can prove your identity online without any doubt. And so it happened:</p>
<p>After a bombastic concert of some newcomers from my region, we went to a club to go partying again. Some of you may have picked it up: My girlfriend and I were on a world trip for whole a year. During that time we had hardly ever left for nocturnal escapades. The notorious <a href="http://www.fullmoonparty-thailand.com/">Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan</a>, for instance, we left after about five minutes, but that's another story. </p>
<h1>TAKE THE FLOOR!</h1>
<p>It was freezing cold, the name of the club Südpol ("South Pole") was very appropriate to the current weather conditions. Only when we arrived in front of the bouncer I noticed my mishap. I had forgotten my driving licence and thus my only valid official ID at home. It didn't help that I had about five different ID cards with me, on which my photo and date of birth were printed. Neither the health insurance card, my annual subscription to public transport nor a photo of my driver's license on my mobile phone could do anything about the obstinate bouncer.</p>
<p>I was pretty angry with that guy. You probably know them, the kind of bouncers who love to take advantage of their power position. That's exactly the kind of guy. </p>
<h1>But much more than the bouncer, the system itself has upset me. </h1>
<p><strong>Why do we still have to identify ourselves with an ancient, physical document in 2017?</strong> How is my moped ID card, which I received nine years ago (the photo looks like my son is on it?), supposed to be more meaningful than another one or the sum of other cards with photo and date of birth? </p>
<h3>Why do we eveb need a card anyway and don't have the possibility to save our identity on a blockchain? </h3>
<p><strong>The date of birth would then be stored on it.</strong> <strong>This would allow the protection of minors to be enforced much more rigorously than is the case today. And adults like me would no longer have to rely on the bouncers' mercy.</strong></p>
<p>I met a friend of mine at the club's courtyard who laughed at me when I told her about my experience. "I just showed a photo of my friend's ID, it worked out great, <em>even though I'm only 17.</em></p>
<h3>With an iris scan, such stories would be a thing of the past forever. </h3>
