<p>I get a lot of shit for voting for Evan McMullin during the 2016 election. It has been two years and sometimes it pops up in conversation. Having been a vocal #NeverTrump guy at Liberty University, obviously I get it more often than not.</p>
<p>I voted for Evan McMullin because I wanted a candidate to vote for that stood up for free trade, limited government, and individual liberty.</p>
<p>Hillary Clinton was the most corrupt candidate to ever run for POTUS, and without a doubt would have been the most authoritarian president since FDR. Let's not forget that the number of people that were confident Trump would win were few and far between. That was Hillary's election to win- whether we like to remember or not- and it seemed that nothing could have stopped it because the Trump campaign was just a massive train wreck.</p>
<p>Donald Trump- who I believe now could potentially be the best president of the last fifty or so years and the most impactful president of my lifetime, has done a tremendous amount of good as our Commander in Chief. I gladly support our President when he has done well, and offer criticism when he doesn't. I am happy he has led the way he has, but President Trump seems drastically different than candidate Trump.</p>
<p>Candidate Trump wanted to go after the <a href="https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t34.18173-12/30421500_2045542992392445_176489141_n.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=61a586268893e3f0b2338de6ca9a9284&oe=5ADE2DE4">families of potential terrorists, </a>he wanted to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Fcs6iW4-_Q">censor parts of the internet</a>, he at times praised socialist Bernie Sanders' <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mSFG42FAfk">trade policies,</a> he complimented <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OUf1WgkS1w">Saddam Hussein</a>, said <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSxwR9kCbZ0">POW's aren't war heroes</a>, wanted to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8mcN0zweQE">replace Obamacare with... Obamacare</a>? The list goes on but he was not a pro-liberty guy, he even flip flopped on the "<a href="http://time.com/4370009/donald-trump-gun-control-watch-list-nra/">no fly-no buy</a>" incident after the Pulse Nightclub shooting not even a week after being endorsed by the NRA.</p>
<p>Gary Johnson lost me with the whole "bake the cake" situation.</p>

<p>The other third party candidates such as Darrell Castle and Jill Stein were a joke. So when Evan McMullin showed up, he talked a good game and was literally the exact opposite of everyone else running. He seemed like a clean cut conservative who spoke to the choir on the issues of education reform, free trade, and religious liberty. I voted for him because out of everyone running, I thought he was doing so because he genuinely cared, and I believed him.</p>
<p>Now its funny how things have worked out, I'm such a fan of President Trump based off his actions in office, but now I can't stand to look at Evan McMullin, who <a href="http://dailycaller.com/2018/04/18/evan-mcmullin-owes-campaign-staff/">can't even pay back his vendors or campaign staffers</a> but has time to take money from his non-profit for his own profit. He used what could have been a tool for conservatism to instead of a tool to divide people, and even those that <a href="http://www.breitbart.com/big-journalism/2017/06/28/heartbreak-erick-ericksons-resurgent-turns-evan-mcmullin-trump-insults/">supported McMullin such as Erick Erickson </a>have turned against him. He's called Trump a "Russian agent" even after it has been firmly exposed the Trump-Russia fairy tale was a literal sham made by the DNC and the media. McMullin could have helped lead the conservative movement, instead he became the person many called him out to be from the beginning- an opportunist.</p>
<p>Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, men who were almost as anti-Trump as they came during the election, are now his biggest champions because it is worthless to be #NeverTrump, you need to be pro-liberty.</p>
<p>I'm proud of President Trump, but I don't regret the decision I made because based on what the situation was, I believe I still made the best decision. I'm glad what I thought about candidate Trump turned out to be wrong, because America is better for him, and for that I am thankful.</p>
