You can push your opponent in a fight. And your opponent can do the same. He can push to throw you away, make you off-balance, or hit you against something. When the attacker is going to push you and you detect that earlier, you can move, step back or step to the side for the time being. The attacker can miss you. If you cannot move for that position, you can parry and redirect his hand outside your body. Then you can go for the counter-attack.

Whenever you make any move to strike the attacker or the attacker wants to hit you, you have to be a certain distance. The attacker will not be able to punch you if you are in a kicking range. In order to punch you, he has to step forward and be in a punching range. 

In the same situation, if he is going to push you with hands, he cannot do that in a kicking range. So he has to get close to you first to push you with his hands. You understand how important it is to maintain distance in a fight and you can defend yourself against push just by maintaining the distance. 

In case you stand straight and the attacker pushes you with one hand, you can move your body to avoid the impact of that push. Even if you don't parry, you can use this as a defense against the push. The attacker can push you with both hands. You can step back quickly and stand in a side to divert that.

A front kick can be used as a push. When you are in a kicking range, be aware of that. Without moving forward, the attacker can do a front kick to push you. To defend against that, you can do sweep parry and move his leg to the side.
