My Homesteading Journey And My Experience So Far.

Hello Hivers!!
Welcome to my Homestead!!


Not until recently,  my thoughts on homesteading was that it just involves only raising of animals for consumption at home, 

I soon discovered that homesteading is a lifestyle.

I made a little search on google about homesteading and was woow by the definition of homesteading.

 “Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture, home preservation of food, and may also involve the small scale production of textiles, clothing, and craft work for household use or sale.”

*And it’s just hit me that I have been practicing homesteading all along in different ways.*

So first a little about myself.
My name is **Rheda** from Nigeria and I love gardening, animal husbandry and more,

 **In General I Love Homesteading**.😉

My approach to homesteading is more of an integrated organic approach where I grow crops and raise animals and integrate them in a sustainable way to reduce cost for household use and for sales.

My experiences in homesteading is an interesting one .I have had several experiences in my homesteading journey starting from my gardening experience where I grow different type of vegetables(cucumbers, tomatoes etc) in a more sustainable and organic way also by maximizing the space available to me by employing different  growing techniques.

Some of the growing techniques I have employed in my garden are 

•	The multistory gardening setup
•	Growing tomatoes on coconut fibres
•	Growing vegetables (pumpkin) in bags etc.

I also raise some rabbits in my homestead which I have had several experience over time ranging from how to take care of them, weaning the young rabbits and also breast feeding the baby rabbits if the mother refuses to, it is indeed and amazing experience.


My experience raising fishes in plastic tanks had giving me the much desired knowledge in fish farming.

Also I intend to raise some few birds (poultry) to gain some experience in it.
I had already started the construction for the poultry but stopped for lack of funds for the project. But hope to complete it before the year runs out.

I also raise some snails although a little bit challenging but I’m gaining the necessary knowledge I need about snails.

I recently started a larvarium where I would be raising  BSFL to help in feeding the fishes and also poultry. Can’t wait to share my experiences with this.

Wow, you are a lot of things. My goodness, homesteading had been something you indulged in for so long. And I am glad you are enjoying this lifestyle too. 

Well done on all of the sustainable farming you have invested time, energy and resources into. It will soon pay off... Don't worry.
