**It has always seemed quite surprising to me the level of consistency with which a franchise as long-standing as Dragon Ball Z usually produces quality video games, although many nostalgics consider that the glory days are behind us and that we have not had a really good game for a long time. , an objective review of this extensive catalog will let us see that the reality is totally opposite.**

In the last two console generations, for example, we've had wonderful experiments like Kakarot, Fighter Z, and the pretty solid multiplayer experience of XenoVerse 1 and 2... Perfect signs that Akira Toriyama's brainchild is still capable of forging classics.

The Gameboy Advance, within its technical limitations, was one of the consoles that managed to demonstrate this point very well: Dragon Ball Adventure, Legacy of Goku II and Supersonic Warriors, are quite varied and fun approaches that would make any carrier of the game proud. nintendo handheld console However... There is a black sheep in the herd, a title that is not only bitter with this beautiful consistency that I was telling you about a while ago, but could easily be considered one of the worst fighting video games that have been created IN GENERAL, I present to you Dragon Ball Z Taiketsu.

![IMG_20221008_181149.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/richardalexis/23vi83PnDQm7v47UkmFpnmspMopU71FpSoWF3YGmhdN6JkRhJT1BpSJrkk75PPvymbvf2.jpg)

A few days ago I spoke to you with great emotion about Tekken Advance, a rather curious adaptation of the Namco franchise that, despite having its origins in much more powerful consoles, knew how to transfer a three-dimensional experience in a very faithful way, even if they had to make a couple of of sacrifices along the way.

What is my point mentioning Tekken Advance in this post? That we shouldn't use the Gameboy's raw power as an excuse to justify Taiketsu's nonsense in every way.

![IMG_20221008_181532.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/richardalexis/23vi5xPVo6DdXCq6pvfoLJDHpXQbTforrFfSu2BxQtvkq4a1PQRo4qb9eRSBMAdGfBmn8.jpg)

Based on a pathetic template of players and a minimum number of game modes, Taiketsu is a two-dimensional fighting video game with a quite particular visual aspect in which sprites try to mix with textures that give a vague sensation of being three-dimensional models. The lack of aesthetic charisma is evident from the first confrontation both in the fighters and in the scenarios, and although they are all recognizable, their proportions are ugly and far from those features with which we usually identify them almost always.

Even if we forgive the woeful graphics, Taiketsu doesn't know how to counterbalance it with absolutely nothing: The gameplay is slow, clumsy, basic and pointless, the hit boxes seem arbitrary and our enemies always have an absurd amount of advantage over us, there is no story mode to justify playing in long sessions and the unlockables do not add anything.

**Everything Taiketsu has to offer us he does it in the first 5 minutes, there is no point in not even giving it a try. A disappointment if we consider the large number of successes that Dragon Ball Z has accumulated over the years.**

![IMG_20221008_181134.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/richardalexis/Eonn25pMWdsfS6tVQ4YPQbpqHNaAFD4v639MSz9Sux87BkpDScruWaD1LDXTzvj3Wpk.jpg)

No obstante...

![IMG_20221008_181149.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/richardalexis/23vi83PnDQm7v47UkmFpnmspMopU71FpSoWF3YGmhdN6JkRhJT1BpSJrkk75PPvymbvf2.jpg)

![IMG_20221008_181532.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/richardalexis/23vi5xPVo6DdXCq6pvfoLJDHpXQbTforrFfSu2BxQtvkq4a1PQRo4qb9eRSBMAdGfBmn8.jpg)

![IMG_20221008_181837.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/richardalexis/23wX5Uv9k56LH9TnZmoAXKiqbZBpZEhqsWn3XzcxySZfseQJSVLRsYPJoV3NPSrc2cgRa.jpg)

@bytezombie ·
Yeah this is game was pretty bad. I watched a breakdown about why this game was so bad:

- WebFoot were busy with making Legacy of Goku 2 (amazing).
- Atari ask WebFoot for a DBZ fighting game on GBA after seeing how well Budokai is doing within 6 months.
- WebFoot were already limited on resources and deployed a small team to work on their **first** fighting game.
- 3D models were probably intended for the PS2 and ended up rendered to save time.

Limited staff and timeline is a recipe for disaster.

Worth a watch:
