**I've always had the idea of doing this post but I feel like it's quite difficult to tackle especially considering the impact The Big Bang Theory has had on popular culture and what we generally expect from comedy series.**

As in most of my reviews I don't want to spend too many words describing the play itself, we all know it by now: The Big Bang Theory is a 2007 series produced by Chuck Lorre (Extremely known for comedies like Two And a Half Men ) and probably one of the most famous sitcoms in the world, there, we follow the story of a small group of friends with privileged brains - who ironically have almost zero social capacities - and we see how their day to day develops.

I also want to mention, before describing the reasons why I do not like this series, that I feel that it is a fairly competent work, with endearing characters and a simple but effective premise that was born in a scenario where calling it innovative would not be an exaggeration.
**I feel like I could group my issues with The Big Bang Theory into two categories: 1. Those that have to do with the nature of its own format (The Traditional Sitcom) and its subsequent execution. 2. Those that derive from their themes, the general narrative and their way of approaching their story.**

For years my feelings regarding the traditional sitcom have been quite variable, although I considered the format as an essential piece in my current love for humor, it cannot be denied how formulaic it is, getting tired very easily.
Although the last decades were plagued by series that tried to give the format a bit more fresh spin (I always mention How i Meet Your Mother as an example) The Big Bang Theory does not seem to put the minimum effort in this, on the contrary, it is obsessed with his own nature. I understand that it is absurd to try to count the rhythm of jokes and how canned laughter hinders it (considering the typical premise that humor is subjective) but it is incredible how each of the jokes has a secrecy where they simply do not work outside of this very specific context.

Videos that made fun of this online trying to extract these canned laughs may feel pedantic, but they help to demonstrate the emptiness of writing.
The funny thing is that although there are many poor quality jokes, there are also great ones that do not have the opportunity to shine as a result of these same laughs and limitations, which denote a lack of confidence in their own dialogues and the capacity that they have to Make us laugh.
So what do I mean by issues at the thematic level? The Big Bang Theory has a symbiotic relationship with pop culture, is relevant to it and also uses it to stay afloat.

Its premise, as I mentioned earlier, is quite interesting, and characters like Sheldon Cooper have a nice balance between irritating and charismatic that makes the journey not heavy. Unfortunately, the narrative arcs of each character do not enhance this, nor do they care about making them mature in an organic and realistic way.
I have read many criticisms over the years that attack how progressively the series stopped being about geeks and became a standard comedy in plan friends, but I feel that on paper this was the idea (And it is something quite interesting), the The problem is that the characters are taking steps back and forth disrespecting the viewer and when big goals are met it feels a bit disrespectful, as if it had not been won fairly.

Here, again, subjectivity comes into play, I have had the opportunity to watch many, many episodes of The Big Bang Theory and several of its best moments always have to do with characters reaching a state of mind that allows them to do something that they could not before ( Ex: Raj managing to talk to women without being intoxicated, or Sheldon ceasing to be Sheldon), but this is never consistently presented to us, which in my opinion would be infinitely more satisfying.
Returning to the pop culture issue, most of The Big Bang Theory gags are quite clumsy when dissected, with set ups that can be boiled down to talking about X topic known in geek culture and Punch Lines that are limited to X character. ignoring that issue.
So we have a sour dichotomy, who can't decide between praising the nerds or mocking them disrespectfully (And probably the plan came first)

Like Revenge of The Nerds or Freaks and Geeks, The Big Bang Theory is a sometimes empowering work, poetically setting misfits to triumph, only sometimes the shot backfires and the opposite is accomplished.
**I said it at the beginning, it is a competent series and there is a lot of value in it, I am only mentioning a number of reasons why I do not enjoy it,Of course, this is totally subjective and it is fine if everyone has a different opinion, after all, that's what we are for.**

Al igual que en la mayoría de mis reseñas no quiero gastar muchas palabras describiendo la obra en si, ya todos la conocemos: The Big Bang Theory es una serie de 2007 producida por a Chuck Lorre (Extremadamente conocido por comedias como Two And a Half Men) y probablemente una de las sitcoms más famosas de todo el mundo, allí, seguimos la historia de un pequeño grupo de amigos con cerebros privilegiados -que irónicamente tienen capacidades sociales casi nula- y vemos cómo se desarrolla su día a día.

También quiero mencionar, antes de describir las razones por las que no me gusta dicha serie, que siento que es una obra bastante competente, con personajes entrañables y una premisa sencilla pero efectiva que nació en un panorama en donde llamarla innovadora no sería exagerar.

Durante años mis sentimientos respecto a la sitcom tradicional han sido bastante variables, aunque consideró el formato como una pieza esencial en mi amor actual por el humor no se puede negar lo formulaíco que resulta, llegando a cansar con mucha facilidad.
Si bien las últimas décadas estuvieron plagadas de series que trataban de darle un giro un poco más fresco al formato (Menciono siempre How i Meet Your Mother como ejemplo) The Big Bang Theory no parece poner el mínimo empeño en esto, todo lo contrario, está obsesionado con su propia naturaleza. Entiendo que es absurdo tratar de contabilizar el ritmo de chistes y como las risas enlatadas lo entorpecen (considerando la premisa típica de que el humor es subjetivo) pero es increíble como cada una de las bromas cuenta con un hermetismo en donde simplemente no funcionan fuera de este contexto tan especifico.

Los videos que a modo de burla se consiguen en internet tratando de extraer estas risas enlatadas pueden sentirse pedantes, pero ayudan a demostrar lo vacío del writing.
Lo curioso del asunto es que aunque hay muchas bromas de mala calidad, también hay otras grandiosas que no tienen la oportunidad de brillar producto de estas mismas risas y limitaciones, las cuales denotan una falta de confianza en sus propios diálogos y la capacidad que tiene para hacernos reír.
Entonces, ¿A qué me refiero con los problemas a nivel temático? The Big Bang Theory tiene una relación simbiótica con la cultura pop, es relevante en ella y también la emplea para mantenerse a flote.

Su premisa, como mencioné anteriormente, es bastante interesante, y personajes como Sheldon Cooper tienen un balance agradable entre lo irritante y lo carismático que hacen que el viaje no sea pesado. Lastimosamente lo arcos narrativos de cada personaje no enaltecen esto, ni se preocupan por hacerlos madurar de forma orgánica y realista.
He leído muchas críticas a lo largo de los años que atacan como progresivamente la serie dejó de ser sobre geeks y se convirtió en una comedia standar en plan friends, pero siento que en papel esta era la idea (Y es algo bastante interesante), el problema es que los personajes van dando pasos hacia adelante y hacia atrás irrespetando al espectador y cuando metas grandes se cumplen se siente un poco irrespetuoso, como si no se hubiese ganado de forma justa.

Aquí, de nuevo, entra en juego la subjetividad, he tenido la oportunidad de ver muchísimos episodios de The Big Bang Theory y varios de sus mejores momentos siempre tienen que ver con personajes alcanzando un estado mental que les permite hacer algo que antes no podían (Ej: Raj logrando hablar con mujeres sin estar en estado de ebriedad, o Sheldon dejando de ser Sheldon), pero esto nunca se presenta a nosotros de forma consistente, lo cual a mi parecer sería infinitamente más satisfactorio.
Retomando el asunto de la cultura pop, la mayoría de los gags de The Big Bang Theory son bastante torpes cuando se diseccionan, con set ups que pueden reducirse a hablar de X tema conocido en la cultura geek y Punch Lines que se limitan a X personaje desconociendo ese tema.
Entonces tenemos una dicotomía agria, que no sabe decidir entre enaltecer a los nerds o burlarse irrespetuosamente (Y probablemente el plan era lo primero)

Al igual que Revenge of The Nerds o Freaks and Geeks, The Big Bang Theory es una obra a veces empoderante, que poéticamente pone a los desadaptados a triunfar, solo que a veces el tiro sale por la culata y se logra todo lo contrario.
**Lo dije al principio, es una serie competente y hay mucho valor en ella, solo estoy mencionando una serie de razones por las cuales no la disfruto, por supuesto, esto es totalmente subjetivo y esta bien si cada quien tiene una opinión distinta, al fin y al cabo para eso estamos.**
