Maybe We Can Try by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
High anxiety lately... Not your fault, so don't feel bad. The world, however, is still spinning (except the core, which is possibly about to reverse direction.) Let's just make some art and try to live our lives!

"DAY 42

Hey! Hey! I'm not The Monkees!!! (But I did just rewatch The Monkees' movie, called HEAD, a few days ago. It's brilliant, and at the moment it's up for a free viewing on Tubi! [This is not a sponsored post cuz I don't do those. When I was young and foolish I TRIED to get sponsors, but now that I'm OLD and foolish, I don't want to sell my thoughts and opinions for a quick buck!] Watch the movie! It's a psychedelic, comedy masterpiece, and the music is fantastic!)

Day 42... Can you believe it? I'm still going. Thistle down whistle 'round lost and found hound... (Sorry... I was free-stylin'!!!)

[Breathe in. Breathe out.]

So... I've been making lots of art, which I probably mention in most of these posts. I've also been working the "behind the scenes" stuff, sharing the pieces I mint on Tweeterz, gathering a dozen (give or take) works (plus all of these typed.art posts) into a compilation "article" and posting THAT to my Hive account (usually thru Peakd.com). After publishing on Hive, I will reshare those articles on Tumblr, WordPress, and Ello. I get lots of views on Ello, but very little feedback. On Tumblr, I get a ton of follows (by bots, I think), but very little feedback. I get one or two "likes" on WordPress. I get the most attention thru Hive, which is cool, but it's taken me over four years to get the followers on there that I currently enjoy. (I was on Steem originally, but when Hive branched off from Steem, I went with the BEES!!!) Tweeterz is probably the most SOCIAL aspect of my online interactions, and some of that is "business" related, but mostly I'm just trying to be funny on there! I also have a Faceboot account, but it's primarily where I talk to family and "real life" peeps, and I've got an Instagram, but I don't use it very often. I did get some positive feedback on my artwork on IG, but since Faceboot took over, I don't feel so good about using it. (I don't like giving FB any more attention than I have to...)

Of course, I would prefer to just make drawings and write junk all day, but I KNOW that sharing on social media is the best way to connect with folks, especially considering the tiny town where I live. I have a much better chance of finding people who share my sensibilities in the online social circles than I do in the physical world...

Now what??? I don't know. I guess I'll just keep doing what I've been doing. I'm pretty happy with my output levels, even if it would be neat to get a few more sales. (We got bills to pay, you know! Ha! I know that's not your problem, but it don't hurt to put it out there! Making some cash out of my creative work has always been the goal! I still love making stuff, and most of it is CLEARLY not meant to be commercial art. It's just a weirdo making weirdo shit! Woooooo! That's the way it works!)

[Felt pen, crayon, colored pencil, and sticker collage on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] Collaboration between my granddaughter and me.

When I was a teenager (back in the Stone Age,) I used to go to this great night spot in Portland, Oregon, called The City Club. The sound system was janky (over-loud and a little fuzzy, so that Donna Summer sounded just as crunchy as Skinny Puppy and Praga Khan), and the bathrooms where terrifying, but they had a fantastic, lighted dancefloor, like the one in Saturday Night Fever! This piece that my granddaughter and I made kinda reminds me of that... (Although it's been thirty years since I visited the place. I think it's been closed for 29...) So..imagine "Bad Girls" and "Injected with a Poison" playing while you look at this one and ENJOY!!!! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool) & Felicity Echo Hanson (Toddler Terror)

"DAY 44

I'm rewatching TRON (the original film). Visually and from a SOUND perspective, the movie is still absolutely brilliant. It's definitely an artwork. Some of the "human" dialog is stilted and unbelievable, but none of that matters thanks to the imagery, color, and sound design... So unearthly. It's a magnificient piece...

I decided to re-engage with ChatGPT. Here's what I've got, so far...

-------------

Richard F. Yates (RFY) - Greetings Machine... Do you remember our previous conversation?

ChatGPT (Chat) - As an AI language model, I don't have the ability to remember previous conversations. I process each new prompt and generate a response based on the patterns I have seen in the data I was trained on, without reference to previous inputs.

RFY - So even if we continue a "conversation" on a single thread, we will essentially start over each time?

Chat - Yes, that's correct. Each time you submit a new prompt or question, I process it as a standalone input and generate a response based on the patterns I have seen in the data I was trained on, without reference to any previous inputs in the same thread or elsewhere.

RFY - Interesting. Is there a specific reason that conversations are not remembered within individual threads?

Chat - The reason AI language models like ChatGPT do not have the ability to remember previous conversations within a single thread is due to the way they are designed and built. AI language models like ChatGPT are trained on large amounts of text data, and they generate responses by selecting patterns in the data that are most likely to be relevant to the prompt or question they are given.

However, this approach does not allow for the persistence of information or state across multiple inputs or interactions. Each time a new prompt or question is given, the model processes it as a standalone input and generates a response based on the patterns it has seen in its training data.

In other words, AI language models are designed to provide a one-shot response to a single prompt or question, and do not have the ability to maintain information or context across multiple interactions.

RFY - How would one go about acquiring access to an A.I. that does remember conversation to conversation? Is this possible?

Chat - There are some AI systems that can be trained to retain information or context from one interaction to the next, and maintain a form of "memory." These systems are often referred to as "retrieval-based" or "memory-augmented" AI models.

Some common examples of retrieval-based AI models include conversational agents that use a database of pre-written responses and retrieve the most appropriate response based on the context of the conversation. Another example is dialogue systems that use a memory component to retain information about the state of the conversation and use this information to inform future responses.

To access these types of AI systems, you could start by searching for companies that specialize in conversational AI or natural language processing and offer such solutions. You can also look into open-source projects and research papers on the topic to gain a better understanding of how these systems work and potentially build your own.

It's important to note that building and training retrieval-based AI models is a complex and resource-intensive process that requires a significant amount of data and computing power. Additionally, these models may still have limitations when it comes to retaining information and generating coherent and appropriate responses, so it's important to be aware of the limitations of these systems.

RFY - Excellent. Thank you.

Chat - Hmm...something seems to have gone wrong. Maybe try me again in a little bit.

An error occurred. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.

-------------

Sorry for that ending, but that's really how the conversation came to a halt. Apparently, so many people are asking the A.I. bot questions that it overloads the system. However, the machine did provide some interesting information. I doubt that my ancient laptop has the computing power (or memory) to maintain a comprehensive A.I. model, but that doesn't mean there isn't some form of persistent A.I. available online. Have to do some digging, if I want to roll in that direction...

Okay. That's DAY 44 in the box! END OF LINE...
