Just finished these custom matching tables for a client - Way down in Chile!

<h1>Hey Steemians! I don't have much to talk about tonight, but I wanted to share some awesome pics of two matching tables that I finished up yesterday for a client</h1>

<p>I made these bad boys out of some left over Oregon Pine tongue-and-grove boards from a construction project.</p>
<p>Prior to building them, I went to take measurements and found out that not a single corner in this house was square...and we're not talking by millimeters, but by 2ish centimeters or more. Being born and raised in the states, that is just unheard of, and was very difficult for me to swallow.</p>

<p>&nbsp;The areas where they were going, needed to be somewhat precise.</p>
<h3>Hmmm...Precise furniture to fit in a not so precise space.</h3>
<p>I had no idea how I was going to do it, until the client spoke up and said, "Well, can't you just make the tables <em>unsquare</em>?"...I was shocked and had no idea how to respond to that, so naturally the first words out of my mouth was:&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>"Uuuhhh...Sure! Why not?"</strong></p>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p><em>Bad idea.</em></p>

<p>Being someone who already over-critiques his own work, my brain was freaking out.</p>
<p>Suddenly I was committed to a job to make two tables that were, yup, you guessed it -&nbsp;</p>
<p><em><strong>Precisely unsquare.</strong></em></p>
<p>How in the <em>hell</em> was I supposed to do that?</p>

<p>So I closed my eyes, and whatever happened over the next few days seems to have worked.</p>
<p>Because I ended up with two precisely<em> unsquare </em>tables.</p>
<p>I know, I know...Dead craftsmen and true architects are rolling over in their graves around the entire globe (or flat plane, whichever you believe in), but in the end my clients were thrilled with their new tables.</p>

<h1>Check out that shine!</h1>
<p><em><strong>In case you are curious:</strong></em></p>
<p>The tops were finished out with a homemade stain and covered with about 5 coats of polyurethane, while the bases were coated with a 50/50 mineral spirit/BLO combo with a natural beeswax/mineral oil mixture rubbed to a slight sheen on top.</p>

They look great Rigaroni!

As someone who's worked construction quite a bit and done a lot of remodeling (mostly as an electrician, but other stuff too), I can assure you that most houses are at least a little out of square. Even some modern ones are pretty far off, but usually it's the older ones that leave you scratching your head.
I put up a covered patio across the back of our house this winter (N Am winter :) ). Because the fascia was so uneven, I had to put all the joists up without cutting them, then cut the ends even. Trying to precut was sure to get messy. My new eave is almost perfectly even now though.

What you did was the perfect way to do it for custom work, unless they don't plan on leaving it there (imperfect dimensions will show up crazy elsewhere, eh?). I'm like you, and want to take out a level and get everything plumb and level. But if the more permanent surfaces around you aren't plumb or level, then guess what looks like it's wrong? Yep, even if your installation is perfectly symmetrical with itself and level and plumb, if it doesn't match the imperfection of the house, then it won't look right. So you mount a fixture on the wall measuring from an adjacent wall or the ceiling or both, and try to make up for differences by averaging out. It usually works... then sometimes it doesn't. 

I like this sort of stuff. Life isn't perfect. But we can do things to make it look better. ;)

After re-reading my post, I realized that it *did* sound like I thought the US does everything perfect and square. Lol! I don't think that at all.
The amount of *unsquaredness* in this house has affected me. Haha Like, it was unquare in every direction. Even the window in the picture was unlevel by 1.5cm! I had to put adjustable feet on the tables to raise one side to make it seem level under the window...but now everything rolls down the table. Haha
Luckily I have a sense of humor and I can stand back and laugh about it all. (Once it's complete)

I like this outlook, I need to incorporate it into my thinking more often, because as of now, fixing peoples mistakes or working around them drives me nuts. Haha

Wow, those are gorgeous, nice glassy finish. I heartily agree with @hanshotfirst.   
 Love your humorous take on the 'unsquare construction'. I made a bunch of shelves next to a chimney in a pantry like that. All rhomboidic in nature. It works, but sure don't want to brag about it.  Those architects are no doubt applauding your workable modifications.     Thanks for the great post.
