Era una tarde calurosa de marzo, el sol parecía estar en revolución de tanto calor que esparcía sobre la tierra. Claudia caminaba por las calle 33 de Caracas, buscando unas flores para su galería de arte, miró y ni una nube en aquel cielo despejado parecía tener la intención de opacar los rayos solares, así que decidió entrar a una cafetería de en frente a degustar un café mientras el clima se enfriaba un poco.

Al cruzar la puerta se percató que una amiga del bachillerato estaba sentada tomando un café, se aproximaba y esta al verla le gritó: 

–¡hola 33! –Emocionadas se abrazaron.

– ¿Cuántos años sin vernos?

–¿Cómo es que aún te recuerdas de mi número de lista?

Ambas se rieron a carcajadas y se sentaron a conversar, Irene la amiga le pidió que le cuente qué había sido de su vida, Claudia inició diciendo que su vida siempre la determinó el número 33.

—Verás,  cuando salimos del bachillerato mi familia viajó a otra ciudad, al llegar allí nada fue fácil, pero curiosamente vivíamos en el apartamento número 33, –Irene sonreía mientras la oía–, entré a la universidad de Bellas Artes y todo hasta ahí marchaba bien, pero cierto día cuando regresaba a casa perdí el transporte me tocó caminar varias cuadras y en una de esas, debía cruzar un pequeño puente porque había una quebrada, yo de curiosa me quedé viendo aquel lugar porque lo vi lindo, al cabo de estar un rato allí, escuché a un niño que hablaba, la voz provenía debajo del puente. Agudicé mis oídos, eran las voces de tres o cuatro niños, era un lugar solitario, silencioso por eso me había agradado, busqué la ladera del puente y bajé, los niños me sonreían, eran preciosos, con sus manitas me invitaban a seguirlos, caminamos quebrada abajo, había una especie de túnel donde ellos entraron, les decía que no, pero entre risas y juegos desatendieron mi pedido y yo los seguí. Adentro era un lugar precioso, tenían muchísimas frutas, banquetes y flores por doquier, había 32 niños y pronto me dijeron "serás la número 33", acepté y jugamos mucho. Al cabo de un rato, les dije que me marchaba porque mis padres estarían preocupados, ya tenía rato con ellos y uno de los niños me preguntó si quería ser la reina de aquel encanto me dieron escalofríos al oír aquello, negando con la cabeza salí corriendo, pero no había salida, era como si corriera en círculo, todos ellos reían. Mientras tanto, afuera había transcurrido el día y mis padres desesperados me buscaban, llamaron a todos los compañeros y uno de ellos les dijo que me había visto sentada en el puente, que me habló pero que estaba como ida riendo, pronto empezaron la búsqueda en aquel puente con linternas y lámparas, una anciana que vivía cerca de allí les dijo que seguramente los duendes me habían encantado; mis padres incrédulos y temerosos deciden no oír a la señora, pero un policía les dijo que lo que decía la señora podía ser cierto, ya se habían perdido varios jóvenes y niños allí, sin dejar rastros y nunca los encontraron; mi padre furioso tomó por la camisa al policía y lo reprende por decir aquello. Ya eran las 10:33 p.m papá en su desespero buscaba a la anciana y le preguntó qué puede hacer, ella le dijo que con fe fuera caminando quebrada abajo y dijera las siguientes palabras por 33 veces: “¡Niña, vuelve a mí!”  Papá aún incrédulo la miró y la señora le dijo si decía el nombre de la niña nunca la hallaría; así  que se fueron repitiendo lo dicho por la señora. Yo sollozando en aquel lugar oí  la voz de mi padre diciendo aquello y grité con todas mis fuerzas “¡Ayudaa!” y en una curva me hallaron recostada a la barranca de la quebrada.

–Qué increíble ¿Qué ocurrió con los niños?

–No lo sé, al oír a mi padre todos aquellos se esfumaron. La señora dijo que eran duendes que habitaban en la quebrada.

–Ya veo por qué dices que el número 33 marcó tu vida.

–Sí, es algo bastante curioso, fíjate nos encontramos en la calle 33.

Las dos amigas siguieron charlando y riendo de sus vivencias.

Claudia was walking along 33rd street in Caracas, looking for some flowers for her art gallery, she looked and not a cloud in that clear sky seemed to have the intention of overshadowing the sun's rays, so she decided to enter a coffee shop across the street to enjoy a coffee while the weather cooled down a little.

As she walked through the door she noticed a friend from high school sitting there having a coffee, she approached and when she saw her she shouted to her, “Hello 33!” Excitedly they hugged each other.

“How many years without seeing each other?”

“How is it that you still remember my roll number?”

Both laughed out loud and sat down to talk, Irene her friend asked her to tell her what had been in her life, and Claudia began by saying that her life had always been determined by the number 33.

"You see, when we left high school my family traveled to another city when we got there nothing was easy, but curiously we lived in apartment number 33, -Irene smiled as I listened to her-, I entered the University of Fine Arts and everything up to that point went well, But one day when I was returning home I missed my transportation, I had to walk several blocks and in one of those, I had to cross a small bridge because there was a creek, I was curious and I kept looking at that place because I saw it beautiful, after being there for a while, I heard a child talking, the voice came from under the bridge. I sharpened my ears, they were the voices of three or four children, it was a lonely place, silent, that's why I liked it, I looked for the slope of the bridge and went down, the children smiled at me, they were beautiful, with their little hands they invited me to follow them, we walked down the ravine, there was a kind of tunnel where they entered, I told them no, but between laughter and games they disregarded my request and I followed them. Inside was a beautiful place, they had lots of fruits, banquets, and flowers everywhere, there were 32 children and soon they told me "you will be number 33", I accepted and we played a lot. After a while, I told them that I was leaving because my parents would be worried, I had been with them for a while and one of the children asked me if I wanted to be the queen of that charm, I got chills when I heard that, shaking my head I ran away, but there was no way out, it was as if I was running in a circle, they all laughed. Meanwhile, outside the day had passed and my desperate parents were looking for me, they called all my classmates and one of them told them that he had seen me sitting on the bridge, that he had spoken to me but that I was laughing, soon they began the search on that bridge with lanterns and lamps, an old woman who lived nearby told them that surely the goblins had enchanted me; My incredulous and fearful parents decided not to listen to the lady, but a policeman told them that what the lady said could be true, several young people and children had already been lost there, without leaving traces and they never found them; my furious father grabbed the policeman by the shirt and reprimanded him for saying that. It was already 10:33 p.m. Dad in desperation looked for the old woman and asked her what he could do, she told him with faith to go walking broken down and say the following words 33 times, 'Girl, come back to me!'  Dad still in disbelief looked at her and the lady told him if he said the girl's name he would never find her; so they left repeating what the lady had said. I was sobbing in that place and I heard my father's voice saying that and I shouted with all my strength ‘Help!’ and in a curve they found me lying on the ravine of the ravine.”

“What happened to the children?”

“I don't know, when they heard my father they all vanished. The lady said they were goblins that lived in the ravine.”

“I see why you say that the number 33 marked your life.”

“Yes, it is something quite curious, look, we met on 33rd Street.”

The two friends continued chatting and laughing about their experiences.
