Currently, Steem is using 0.08% bandwidth of the network at 1.2M users. With linear progression, 100M Steem users will use only 6.67% bandwidth. Steem can support up to 1.4 billion users. Steem is based on graphene blockchain which has a roadmap for 1M transactions per minute compared to today's 10K transactions per seconds (100X). It means with future support, Steem can be easily scalable. In fact, along with EOS, BTS, Steem is one of the most scalable blockchain in the world.

Now that we have figure out that Steem has the bandwidth to support not 100s of millions but billions, how can we get next 100M users. Answers would be they will come from upcoming 100s of successful DApps.

In future, people will be onboarding into a new Dapp never knowing it is running on Steem blockchain. For example, people may do research about alternative to Youtube. They may end up to Dtube and sign in, never knowing they are onboarding to a blockchain. If they are creators, they may figure out how earning works on Dtube but it will be still secondary.

Few huge successful DApps that people may find alternative to popular centralized Apps, can bring next 100M users. For example Appics or Steepshot may become second best to Instragram, @zappl to twitter, @dmania to 9gags, @steemit to reddit or medium, @vimm to twitch etc. and many more.

The earning should be secondary and a bonus. If Dtube can become a popular alternative knowledge source to Youtube, then earning from content will not be the driving force. Reward distribution will be alternative to Advertisement. The idea of token as alternative to Advertising is still relatively new idea. Steemit is most probably the first and successful proof of concept. 

In summary, we need a couple of very successful DApps that can compete with large scale centralize websites. People will join them due to their advantages and service they provide, not for rewards. The rewards will be secondary and help the content creators as Youtube provide incentive to them by sharing Ad profits.
