➤ These days that I started playing Don't Starve with the boys I have been reviving my desire for the game, not much but enough to maybe play again alone for a while, since Jota doesn't have internet and lately we haven't been able to play because of that. I started watching videos of the game and I really felt like starting a world on my own and I thought that maybe I could face the winter and survive the best way I can, trying to get as many resources and items as I can. And well, make a little guide on how to survive this damn season. It's pretty hard if we don't prepare well. I was playing for 4-5 hours straight until I got to winter and overcame it.

➤ Winter if we play default starts exactly on day 21, so we have a small amount of time to prepare, it's not a lot of time so we certainly have to be pretty fast. I actually think this is a very cruel part of the game, because for novice or inexperienced players it would be impossible for them to make it through the winter, so it would be ensuring their death. Winter is not a passive season at all, constantly, or rather every second we will face the adversities of this season, the most dangerous being the cold, but this is more than obvious. However, this is not the only thing that happens. During the winter all kinds of crops and trees will grow much slower and also the amount of animals that appear will be somewhat reduced, affecting this greatly on our food. Along with the cold we will also lose a lot of sanity.
➤ This is why we must be completely prepared for this season, having everything ahead of time. From food and necessary items. The first thing we need to know is that we have to have our home near beefalo, they will be our salvation for the winter, and above all, we MUST NOT KILL THEM. The beefalo fur will help us to create all the necessary coats and hats for the winter, the most important being the beefalo hat or helmet. The best way to get these skins is to use a scissors and cut the skin while they are sleeping. There are two ways that we can do this, the first is that always on the 11th day, the nightfall will be full moon, so we can walk in the dark without problems and so we will take the opportunity to cut the skin. The second would be to wait until nightfall and place a bonfire near the place, but not literally next to the beefalos. Just close enough to illuminate us and be able to cut their skin.

➤ The most necessary thing next to our beloved beefalos would be the spider web, but that is quite easy to get, it does not require much technique, just do not destroy the nests to make the spiders appear infinitely. Obviously having a base is important for winter and all seasons and every part of the game. You have to take many things into account when doing so, first the place where we are and the amount of resources we have near us. From trees, branches, stones, animals like pigs that can help us, and of course food. The accessibility of being able to easily reach other places from our base is an indispensable point when doing so. I took a fairly central location where I had absolutely everything close by, including wormholes that took me to different biomes. I also tamed some meat pigs to protect and help me. They are quite useful because they help you cut wood, this is very good. I even built them a house.

➤ Another thing that we must get with necessity are the gears, with this object we will be able to build the fridge, which is a completely necessary structure for the winter. Since the best way to survive this season is to store food as if there is no tomorrow, deposit absolutely all the food we can days before the winter begins, as food will then become very difficult to find. It will also be quite good that we take care of creating enough plantations and grow many berry plants. We will get the gears by killing mechanical horses or any mechanical enemy, we can find them randomly on the map guarding marble structures and a statue of Maxwell. It's quite difficult to kill them if we don't learn their technique, and also depending on our character. At least I use Wendy and my ghost is in charge of protecting me and doing damage at the same time, making it easy for me to kill them.

The food from the farm we will have to grab it or else it will be damaged. Another thing we can do is that if we have frog ponds near our house, we can create a rod and catch fish. For each pond we will be able to catch at least 10 fish, this is mandatory to do it before winter, otherwise the ponds will freeze. We can also kill turkeys, pigs or any animal that gives us meat. We always have to have our fridge as full as possible.

We will be able to find it in different ores of ice that will be formed by the map, especially in the biomes of rocks, there is where we will be able to find more. We will be able to eat the ice as it is and as we chop it, although it will not help us much. The best thing to do with the ice is to use it to cook meatballs in the pot. We can easily mix 3 blocks of ice together with a piece of meat and it will give us our meatballs. The best thing about this is that we can even do it with monster meat, so that it can be useful and edible. So killing the spiders and hounds will come in handy for us to be able to eat. You can also see that I built myself a boat, hehe. It's the Black Pearl. Really the ship has nothing to do with winter, but it's very good for exploring and getting stuff from the sea.

➤ And well, once winter knocks on our doors the first thing we have to do is to create the little snow cap I mentioned before, along with what will save our lives most of the time, the thermal stones. These can be easily made with rock and a pickaxe. It will serve to deposit the heat and be able to carry them always with us. The way to fill them with heat is to drop them next to our bonfire, it is best to always have at least two of these beautiful stones and at least one spare hat. Another thing is that we should always carry with us materials to create a fire while exploring, in case the cold is too much. Or else carry a torch to burn trees or anything that gives heat.

➤ Another advantageous thing is that if we get a flute we can put the penguins to sleep and steal their eggs, but NEVER ATTACK THE PENGUINS. No matter how harmless they look they can easily kill you, it is very difficult to kill them alone if we are not well equipped, not even Abigail can fight them. The penguins are the final boss. We can also look for marmots, they will give us quite a lot of meat and if we kill the boss marmots they will give us blowguns and a pretty nice hat. If we are lucky enough to get one of their teeth we can create a staff that will make us run much faster.

➤ Each of these things are indispensable to survive this harsh season, but the worst comes at the end. Once the winter is near the end we will be attacked by a boss, known as Deerclops. He is a giant cyclops, and believe me, he is too strong. This boss is particularly attracted to structures, so it is the first thing he will always attack. The best we can do is build walls to distract him from destroying our base. We have two options, either run away from him or face him, the second one I don't recommend at all. I tried it and it didn't work out very well, even though I was quite equipped with marble armor, pig helmet, an ice cane, boomerangs and many objects to recover life, even with none of this I couldn't even lower half of his life. The best thing to do is to run away from him. He won't chase us when we get away, but he'll be hanging around the last area we saw him in. The best thing to do is to stay completely away from our base until the winter is over and he leaves, which would be to wait 1 or 2 days. Unless we are armed to the teeth or accompanied, it is quite difficult for us to kill it. We will need a lot of torches to escape, as he always appears at night. ➤ El invierno si jugamos de forma default comienza exactamente en el día 21, así que tenemos una pequeña cantidad de tiempo para prepararnos, no es mucho tiempo así que sin duda tenemos que ser bastante rápidos. De hecho creo que esta es una parte muy cruel del juego, porque para jugadores novatos o sin experiencia sería imposible que lleguen a pasar el invierno, así que sería asegurar su muerte. El invierno no es una estación para nada pasiva, constantemente, o mejor dicho cada segundo nos enfrentaremos a las adversidades de esta estación, siendo la más peligrosa el frío, pero esto es más que obvio. Aún así, esto no es lo único que sucede. Durante el invierno todo tipo de cultivos y árboles crecerán mucho más lento y también se reducirá un poco la cantidad de animales que aparecen, afectando esto enormemente en nuestra comida. Junto al frío también perderemos mucha cordura.
➤ Por esto mismo es que hay que estar completamente prevenidos para esta estación, tener todo antes de tiempo. Desde comida y los objetos necesarios. Lo primero que necesitamos saber es que tenemos que tener nuestro hogar cerca de beefalos, ellos serán nuestra salvación para el invierno, y sobre todo, NO DEBEMOS MATARLOS. La piel de beefalo nos servirá para poder crear todos los abrigos y sombreros necesarios para el invierno, siendo el más importante el gorro o el casco de beefalo. Lo mejor para poder conseguir estas pieles es utilizar una tijera y cortarles la piel mientras duermen. Hay dos formas de que podamos hacer esto, la primera es que siempre en el día 11, el anochecer será de luna llena, así que podremos caminar en la oscuridad sin problemas y así aprovecharemos para cortarles la piel. La segunda sería esperar a que sea de noche y colocar una hoguera cerca del lugar, pero no literalmente al lado de los beefalos. Solo lo suficientemente cerca para iluminarnos y poder cortarles la piel.

➤ Lo más necesario junto a nuestros queridos beefalos sería la tela de araña, pero esa es bastante fácil de conseguir, no requiere de mucha técnica, solo no hay que destruir los nidos para hacer que las arañas aparezcan infinitamente. Obviamente tener una base es importante para el invierno y todas las estaciones y cada parte del juego. Hay que tener muchas cosas en cuenta a la hora de hacerlo, primero el lugar en el que estamos y la cantidad de recursos que tenemos cerca de nosotros. Desde árboles, ramas, piedras, animales como los cerdos que puedan ayudarnos, y por supuesto comida. La accesibilidad de poder llegar fácilmente a otros lugares desde nuestra base es un punto indispensable a la hora de hacerlo. Yo tomé un lugar bastante céntrico donde tenía absolutamente todo cerca, incluyendo agujeros de gusano que me llevaban a distintos biomas. También domestiqué unos cerdos con carne para que me protegieran y me ayudaran. Son bastante útiles porque te ayudan a cortar madera, esto es muy bueno. Hasta les construí una casa.

➤ Otra cosa que debemos conseguir con necesidad son los engranajes, con este objeto vamos a poder construir la nevera, la cual es una estructura completamente necesaria para el invierno. Ya que la mejor forma de sobrevivir a esta estación es guardar comida como si no hubiera un mañana, depositar absolutamente toda la comida que podamos días antes de que comience el invierno, ya que la comida luego se nos hará muy difícil de encontrar. También será bastante bueno que nos encarguemos de crear bastantes plantaciones y cultivar muchas plantas de bayas. Los engranajes los conseguiremos matando caballos mecánicos o cualquier enemigo mecánico, los podemos encontrar de forma aleatoria en el mapa resguardando estructuras de mármol y una estatua de Maxwell. Es bastante difícil matarlos si no aprendemos su técnica, y también dependiendo de nuestro personaje. Por lo menos yo uso a Wendy y mi fantasma se encarga de protegerme y hacer daño al mismo tiempo, haciendo que me resulte fácil matarlos.

➤ Lo que mejor aconsejo es intentar conseguir toda la cantidad de comida posible días antes de que comience el invierno, así no se nos daña demasiado, aunque para eso tendremos la nevera, para que dure muchísimo más. Hay muchas forma de poder alimentarnos durante el invierno, el primer consejo es respecto a los cultivos de bayas, una vez que los tengamos nunca los tomemos hasta que llegue el invierno, y agarrar las bayas solo cuando sea necesario. La comida de la granja tendremos que agarrarla o si no se dañará. Otra cosa que podemos hacer es que si tenemos estanques de rana cerca de nuestra casa, podemos crear una caña y pescar peces. Por cada estanque podremos pescar al menos 10 peces, esto es obligatorio hacerlo antes del invierno, porque si no los estanques se congelan. También podemos matar pavos, cerdos o cualquier animal que nos dé carne. Siempre tenemos que tener nuestra nevera lo más llena posible.

➤ Y ahora... El mejor truco; el hielo. Sí, así como lo oyen, el hielo será nuestra salvación. Vamos a poder encontrarlo en distintas menas de hielo que se formarán por el mapa, sobre todo en los biomas de rocas, allí es donde más podremos encontrar. Podremos comer el hielo tal cual y como lo picamos, aunque no nos ayudará mucho. Lo mejor que podemos hacer con el hielo es utilizarlo para cocinar albóndigas en la olla. Ya que fácilmente podremos mezclar 3 bloques de hielo junto a un pedazo de carne y nos dará nuestras dichosas albóndigas. Lo mejor de esto es que podremos hacerlo incluso con la carne de monstruo, para que así pueda sernos útil y comestible. Así que matar a las arañas y los sabuesos nos vendrá muy bien para poder comer. También pueden ver que me construí un barco, hehe. Es el Perla Negra. Realmente el barco no tiene nada que ver con el invierno, pero es muy bueno para explorar y conseguir cosas del mar.

➤ Y bueno, una vez que el invierno toque nuestras puertas lo primero que tenemos que hacer es crearnos el pequeño gorro de nieve que mencioné anteriormente, junto a lo que nos salvará la vida la mayor parte de las veces, las piedras térmicas. Estás podemos hacerlas fácilmente con roca y un pico. Servirá para depositar el calor y poder llevarlas siempre con nosotros. La forma de llenarlas de calor es soltarlas al lado de nuestra hoguera, lo mejor es siempre tener al menos dos de estas bonitas piedras y al menos un gorro de repuesto. Otra cosa es que siempre debemos llevar encima materiales para poder crear una hoguera mientras exploremos, en caso de que el frío sea demasiado. O si no llevar una antorcha para quemar árboles o cualquier cosa que dé calor.

➤ Otra cosa bastante ventajosa es que si llegamos a conseguir una flauta podremos dormir a los pinguinos y robarles sus huevos, eso sí, NUNCA ATAQUEN A LOS PINGUINOS. Por más inofensivos que se vean pueden acabar con ustedes fácilmente, es muy difícil matarlos solo si no estamos bien equipados, ni siquiera Abigail puede contra ellos. Los pinguinos son el jefe final. También podemos buscar marmotas, nos darán bastante carne y si matamos a las marmotas jefes nos darán cerbatanas y un gorro bastante bonito. Si tenemos la suerte de conseguir uno de sus dientes podremos crear un bastón que hará que podamos correr mucho más rápido.

➤ Cada una de estas cosas son indispensables para sobrevivir a esta dura estación, pero lo peor viene al final. Una vez que el invierno está cerca de terminar nos vendrá a atacar un jefe, es conocido como Deerclops. Es un cíclope gigante, y creanme, es demasiado fuerte. Este jefe particularmente se siente atraído por las estructuras, así que es lo primero que siempre atacará. Lo mejor que podemos hacer es construir muros para distraerlo y que no nos destruya nuestra base. Tenemos dos opciones, o huir de él o enfrentarlo, la segunda no la recomiendo para nada. Lo mejor que podemos hacer es huir de él. No nos perseguirá cuando nos alejemos, pero estará rondando por la última zona en la que lo vimos. Lo mejor es estar completamente lejos de nuestra base hasta que termine el invierno y se vaya, que sería esperar 1 o 2 días. A menos de que estemos armados hasta los dientes o acompañados, es bastante difícil que lo matemos. Vamos a necesitar muchas antorchas para poder escapar, ya que siempre aparece en al noche. También mucha comida encima y todos los materiales necesarios para hogueras.

➤ Y bueno, creo que esto es todo lo que debemos saber para poder sobrevivir a esta dura estación, también tenemos que recordar que la segunda vez que aparezca será peor...
