You are so hilarious!  I love the way you described things when you’re frustrated.  Oh my gosh that orangutan video had me cracking up but I love how persistent she was lol.

I’m so glad we have seamstresses here that can actually help you and give you advice because I couldn’t even give you an ounce of it.  I am not confident enough to sew on my own but only do it when my mom is present.  This is one of the very reasons why.  I’ve experienced breakage, snagging, tangles and the whole works.  I realized that sewing is not only being able to figure out the fabrics but you’ve gotta know your machine and how to keep it at par. There were times my projects had to sit and wait till my mom could come over and fix my machine. 😅

Sewing elastic can cause some machines to make "nests" of tangled thread from the bobbin. I get best results using a stretch needle (also called Jersey needle) rather than a "universal" needle when sewing anything with lots of stretch, In fact, most sewing problems come from either a mismatch among needle/thread/fabric or a problem with the thread path. Be sure the bobbin thread is feeding in the right direction and the thread end is firmly in the little hole that feeds it up to the hook that tskes the bottom thread through the top.

Yup sounds like a tension got off when the bottom bobbin assembly was taken apart. I don’t have your brand of machine. I learned to sew on a 1914 New Home treadle machine and that’s all I had until someone gave me a very old Singer electric about 5 years ago. I hope you can sort the tension...

And I gave up trying to sew nearly 10 years ago. I’d tried to make a pair of pajama bottoms and managed to sew the wrong seams together. I got them fixed and didn’t ruin the material but haven’t sewn since. The concentration it required was too exhausting.

Did see that disaster coming tho.... Eh, these sewing machine had always frustrated my mom when she start sewing something after ages such thing always happens and I eventually came from nowhere 🤣.

And I can relate with the frustration of trying to fix the bobbins and threads getting tangled and messy. Sometime ago, I just set the machine aside and the unfinished job. Went back to them after a few weeks and it's funny coz I was able to fix them on first attempt so I thought someone invisible was messing with me previously, !LOLZ

@fibrefrau is correct, you need ballpoint needles. Also, use a wide zigzag stitch, rather than narrow (stretch the elastic as you sew) Give me the dimensions and I’ll make patterns for you to download in PDF format that you can printout on a printer and use

I laughed at this (not precisely at your misfortune, but at your account of the events). At least you were able to sew a part and it turned out well, it will be a matter of patience to be able to resume.

Sewing machines are very special, they smell frustration and seem to work worse if your mood is bad. So I recommend letting a few days go by and then trying to fix it, show him that you have a good predisposition and I'm sure it'll collaborate.

Sewing elastic is one of the hardest things and you did it right, now go for more! By the way, I love that camper, having one is just a traveling dream for me 😍.

Haha making fitted sheets is like folding them. I made some once but then again, I made a living sewing stuff from leather, vinyl, and occasionally fabric. My trick would be to use thin elastic, sew the hem, creating a channel and adding in the elastic, attaching it at either end and letting it gather itself. Anything else is a recipe for madness

My bobbin casing looks just the same, but it sounds like you eventually got it sorted?  If not I can video it for you.  It's a bit fidgety on mine, but not complicated.

The camper is looking great!  You're doing a great job.  I aspire to be a an orangutan with a saw lol  My projects usually involve me banging my head against the wall for a few days finally getting it half ass done then realizing a much easier and better way to do it after I'm already done 🙄
