It's a disgrace. Certain things should not carry a charge in my opinion and access to beaches and nature would be high on that list for me. 

We were in England for a wedding a few years ago, the day after we decided to go to NewQuay for a surf and chilled out in a cafe after to try the scones and clotted cream they are famous for. Well it was the most expensive feckin scone I ever had!! Not because the cafe was charging a lot, no because I didnt put enough in the meter and video surveillance was used to prove that my additional stay warranted a £100 fine! I was livid and because it was a rental car, I had no choice but to pay it 🙈🙈🙈

This is obnoxious and getting worse. The beach we love to go to was 2$ an hour to park, not the best but not the worst. We enjoyed it for many years. Now those fucking *criminals* in the town are charging 4$ a fucking hour to park! It’s quite abhorrent honestly, these pieces of shit take advantage of any excuse to increase prices but not provide anything better. Doubling the parking was absurd and they don’t offer trash, so you carry in and carry out which is fine, but if you’re charging me an astronomical fee to enjoy a few hours at the damn beach why the fuck am I going to bother visiting? This type of shit pisses me off to no extent!

All I can say is don't come to Ireland!

Crazy - but you still would have the choice to drop off the crew and then drive back out of the Earl's parking zone?
Here in Austria you can't even access lake shores anymore. All owned privately. Access to the water? Go to the "public" beach which charges between EUR 6 and more for a day pass. The car not included.

Wow River, the mind boggles to hear that you have to pay to enjoy time at the beach, which should be public property. I can't imagine it, since here in this world Africa we have free beaches. 

It's a big country here, like Australia, so there's loads of space and less people, while the first world UK and Europe is small and crowded. 

It looks like one gets nickel-and-dimed in some places there. It's interesting that you didn't feel the same in other countries. I do hope they're putting those funds to good use. :)

Yeah, it's a bloody ripoff. 

The cost of living here is high indeed, especially for ridiculous things like parking. 
Generally, I'm surprised that there's not an obligatory **license for breathing** in this country.🤗

There's really no surprise as to why so much of the UK is in the unfortunate state it is. Not only is it almost impossible to travel anywhere without a car, every aspect of attempting to travel the small island is riddled with borderline extortion. 

I lived in the UK for just short of 29 years and I saw hardly any of it. Because whenever the thought came up, it was met with insanely high train ticket prices, overpriced hotel costs, and nothing but urban decay.

It's really like a form of self-destruction. An intentional pursuit of suicide. No plans to improve or fix things, not even awareness of how bad things are. And then other countries with GDPs a mere fraction of our own are developing at rapid rates. The collapse of the coastal towns was a tragedy and nothing has ever been done to even attempt at reviving them.

Hello my friend - yes they like to rinse you in all those places.  I also think that many of them are owned by a private estate - so not even the councils can be blamed. It was quite a shock after living in the wilds of Scotland for a few years. That said, I live in Devon, go to the beach all the time, and never pay to park - that's the benefit of being local, when you have time on your hands you can find all the best free, empty beaches, and wild stretches of coastline. :D

The trick to living in Britain is to get a Netflix subscription and never go out anywhere.

Reading your post (with a fuming head) I kept wondering: what if I showed up on my bicycle? Would it be charged a parking fee too? Or how about just with a backpack and a pair of hiking boots? Though I can sort of imagine the answer... The first night I spent on the road in Canada, I made the mistake of pitching my tent in a "camping park" or whatever it was supposed to be, thinking that was the right place for such things. No signs, no information, but the next day, on the way out, I was charged close to $50 CAD. Oh, so the site is for RVs (which weren't around there either)? Anyway, I learned my lesson and opted for wild camping instead. 

As for "public" beaches, here in Mexico the entire coastline is officially federal public land, which can't be owned privately, especially not by foreigners. Still, in many places, such as Playa del Carmen, the local Hilton is built so close to the water's edge that one person can barely squeeze by with dry feet. So sad!

Yuhh it's unexpectedly. But should sad honestly here we also have some taxes for tourists. As example if you come as a tourist to sea shore let's say Sochi you should pay tourists taxes depends on how long and in which area you prefer to stay. Just for that that you came as a toursist to rest in th city on the sea shore. 
Fortunately we don't have fees for crossing private territory in most cases it will be closed.
And it to talk about fees for stopping and if you would like to buy ice cream. You can pay via mobile app or sms. And if you go out before your time is over you can return your funds proportionally to the left time. A
But here we had small trick that first 10/15 minutes are free😉
But yes all this taxes and fees can become one big headache 😞

It saddens me to read this, although I am not surprised. One of the reasons I left Ireland was because of how difficult it was to just be in nature, to enjoy it. What with all the barriers and now like the U.K what you have to pay. xx
