I promise there's no more furniture in my house to renovate - almost. This TV entertainment unit was the one I wanted to do the most as I hated the orange varnish, whilst still liking the orange wall (besides, we will never paint over that - imagine how much white paint I'd need!). 

A little side note: please don't judge me on the size of my telly. It's an older model if that helps. We would NEVER have spent money on a fancy telly like this. But whenever my Dad upgrades his Sony he passes his old one on to us. I have to admit watching films on a quality screen is pretty good....

I had an idea of what I wanted to do with the unit for ages but couldn't manage to talk Jamie into it.  He spent two hours looking for an entertainment unit on marketplace, even though I said it was pointless. Finally, he gave up after realizing they were all either too exy, too ugly, didn't fit records, or too far away. Why don't they bloody listen to us to start with, these husbands? Sigh.

We entirely replaced the top, as we wanted a similar wood top to our dining table. These cost 128 bucks from Bunnings and believe it or not was EXACTLY the size we needed. We wanted it to overhang slightly too. We screwed it on and finished it with furniture wax. Doesn't it look beautiful?

The insides were rough sanded and painted with Fusion mineral paint in coal. I was a bit worried that it would be too black in context with the TV and speakers but it works perfectly in my opinion, especially contrasted with the wood.

The legs and the rest were sanded free of varnish (thank God for the orbital sander!) and waxed. I will wax it a number of times over the next few weeks so the wood is super protected. Our homemade table has retained it's beauty after ten years of being waxed and using placemats, so we prefer it over other treatments. It really shows off the natural wood.

Jamie spent a few hours organizing his vinyl and setting up the TV and stereo properly, playing tunes as he went.

And yes, he admitted that upcycling this unit was an excellent idea, and he should have listened to me in the first place. 

A good husband admits he is wrong.
