The surroundings of the St. Banné pier, more congested than usual at that hour of the morning, were crowded with passers-by who swarmed through its narrow alleys amidst jostling and the incessant splashing under their feet, product of the copious rain fallen during the night. All driven by the desire to know firsthand the terrible events. 

Mariano, covered only with a thick bathrobe, made his way abruptly through the crowd. The news of the macabre discovery had reached his ears in the middle of the morning shower thanks to the town crier, who loudly announced a new corpse on the pier. 

He got out of the shower immediately, took the robe provided by the hotel and with only his camera in hand, hurried to the pier.  He could not allow the vermin Julian de la Cruz to get the scoop again.  

Finally after a few pushes and with soaked feet he found himself face to face with the terrible scene.

Marina Rue, Yoco's third victim; Thirty-four years old, a Literature teacher and like the previous victims, a regular visitor to Café Le Fleur was sitting in her usual spot. 

A cup of coffee occupied her right hand, while with the other she pretended to hold the pages of a half-read book. 

Sunglasses that hid her empty eye sockets and a macabre smile drawn on her face, thanks to two red threads that went up from the corner of her lips to the most prominent part of her cheekbones, turning the scene into a scene worthy of a horror film. 

And it was precisely that smile that sowed terror among the inhabitants of Yoco, who immediately noticed the similarities between the current victims and those of the *"Puppeteer "*, as the serial killer of Santa Fe was baptized.  

But unlike that one, who took care to carefully conceal his victims, the Yoco killer seemed to take pleasure in publicly displaying them in such a grotesque manner, which led detectives to wander through two hypotheses.

On the one hand, the shocked people were demanding answers from the police department and on the other hand, the press, like vultures on the prowl, were increasing the population's fear with live reports from the scene of the crime that made even the sanest person feel paranoid. *Mariano,  cubierto únicamente con una gruesa bata de baño, se abría  paso bruscamente entre la muchedumbre. La noticia del macabro hallazgo  había llegado a sus oídos en plena ducha matutina gracias al pregonero del pueblo, que a viva voz anunciaba un nuevo cadáver en el muelle.*

*Salió de la ducha al instante tomando la bata provista por el hotel y con sólo su cámara en mano salió a toda prisa rumbo al muelle.  No podía permitir que la sabandija de Julián de la Cruz se quedara nuevamente con la primicia.* 

*Finalmente después de unos cuantos empujones y con lo pies empapados se encontró de frente con la terrible escena.*

*Y era precisamente ésa sonrisa la que sembraba el terror entre los habitantes de Yoco, quienes de inmediato advirtieron las similitudes entre las víctimas actuales y las del *"Titiritero"*, como fue bautizado el asesino serial de Santa Fé.*

*Pero a diferencia de ése, quien se encargaba de ocultar cuidadosamente a sus víctimas, el asesino de Yoco  parecía sentir placer al exhibirlos públicamente de manera tan grotesca, lo que llevaba a los detectives a pasearse por dos hipótesis*.

Y vaya que la encontró. Yoco era un verdadero caos.* 

*Por un lado el pueblo conmocionado exigía respuestas al departamento de policía y por el otro la prensa como buitres al acecho acrecentaban el temor de la población con reportajes en vivo desde la escena del crimen que hacían sentir paranoico hasta al más cuerdo. Y en medio todo aquello se encontraba Mariano, listo para ir detrás de la mejor toma, del mejor reportaje y la mejor entrevista.  Sin siquiera imaginar a dónde lo conducirían sus investigaciones*.
