Paul was a janitor at the zoo and his duties included feeding the animals. Normally he was very precise and knew by heart the type of food and the amount depending on the animal. One day, however, distracted by his girlfriend's phone call, he forgot a bucket of carrots in front of the elephants' cage. The little elephant, curious, tried one and became greedy. The zoo administrator noticed an increase in the amount of fruit and vegetables spent and asked Paul for an explanation. The zoo administrator couldn't increase the entrance fee just to make an elephant happy, so Paul suggested a form of spontaneous donation. From the next day, a donation box for the little elephant's carrots was hung on the bars of the cage, and the public gladly and generously joined in. The little elephant thanked in its own way, twirling the carrots over its head with its trunk and then eating them, while the children enjoyed following this nice little show.

Paul faceva l'inserviente allo zoo e tra i suoi compiti c'era quello di dar da mangiare gli animali. Normalmente era molto preciso e sapeva a memoria il tipo di cibo e la quantità a seconda dell'animale. Un giorno però distratto dalla telefonata della fidanzata dimenticò un secchio di carote davanti alla gabbia degli elefanti. L'elefantino incuriosito ne provò una e ne divenne goloso. L'amministratore dello zoo notò un aumento della spesa ortofrutticola e ne chiese spiegazione a Paul. L'amministratore non poteva certo aumentare il biglietto d'ingresso solo per far contento un elefantino, Paul propose una forma di donazione spontanea. Dal giorno seguente una cassettina delle offerte per le carote dell'elefantino fu appesa sulle sbarre della gabbia ed il pubblico aderiva volentieri e con generosità. L'elefantino a modo suo ringraziava, facendo roteare con la proboscide le carote sopra la testa per poi cibarsene, mentre i bambini si divertivano a seguire quel simpatico siparietto.
