Security devices have been a part of society ever since the first human colonies formed thousands of years ago. As technology and manufacturing capabilities advanced, locks were eventually created which allowed the owner to access the contents of the protected area with the use of a key. This prevented outsiders or unauthorized people from gaining entry without the permission of the key holder. Since then, locks and keys have become much more complex and complicated making it more difficult for thieves to bypass. Just like protecting physical objects with a lock and key, computers share a similar security feature for digital information known as a password. Passwords protect some of our most important information that we rely on for everyday life, whether it be paying bills or health insurance, having your account hacked can have devastating consequences. Even something as simple as your Facebook account, if infiltrated an attacker could cause irreparable damage to you and the people in your life. Just take a look at the celebrity nude photo hacks that are consistently being published, each and everyone of those people rely heavily on that one single password to keep all of their information private.

The clearest answer would be to create a strong password that is made up of 24 random characters such as Steemit's account passwords. Unfortunately the issue with this is that it becomes nearly impossible to remember, so we always resort back to using short and simple passwords that can be quickly inputted into the browser. Along with easy passwords that can be remembered, we quite frequently reuse them from account to account making this already flimsy security feature even more so. Once one of the accounts is cracked the hacker can use that same password throughout the rest of your logins and emails accessing all of your information. After doing some extensive research into password strength and security I found out that length is key over randomization.
For example the password:
"Went Dog House Table"
 is much stronger than:
"GeU&4!"

Bruteforce attacks are one of the most popular type of password hacking tools used today, as it can decipher the code without a predefined dictionary list. That is why short passwords that are only 4 characters long can be cracked by a home PC in as little as 3 hours, whereas a password that is 24 characters long will take a super computer years to crack.

What I have found to work very well is instead of creating random character passwords, create a long 24 character phrase, with one of the words or letters changing for each account.
For example my Facebook password would be:
"Total cat car is FB11"
Then I would alter it slightly for my Google password:
"Total cat car is GO11"

The phrase for each password stays the same except for the initials which I change depending on the website. By creating passwords this way you can create a unique code for each account while being able to recall each one easily. As long as you don't use common phrases that people will know, this password style is basically Bruteforce and Dictionary attack proof, making all of your accounts far more secure.

Well I hope you found this article useful and if you are someone like me who uses the same password for everything, I would highly suggest adopting a new password managing technique to insure you stay safe and secure online. Now just for the fun of it, lets take a look at the 5 most commonly used passwords in the world. If ANY of your passwords match these, CHANGE THEM NOW.

"password"

"123456"

"qwerty"

"abc123"

"starwars"

Thank you for reading this article and hopefully you found some of this information useful. If so please remember to upvote, resteem and comment below. Until next time, Grayson

Interesting article. Back in 2016, I did some YouTube videos about password generators and password strength checkers. True that using a passphrase is better than using a password but this still uses dictionary words in the passphrase. One way to combat this problem is to use a non-alphanumeric character somewhere in your passphrase that wouldn't be found in a dictionary.

More valuable the contents are, more strong the password should be. Once, my roommate, put **7** only as a password of his laptop. We all failed to cracked it.
