The last time we explained you, why in our opinion travelling around Bali with a scooter is the most easy and fun way to do. Today we will explain to you how you can get around Indonesia if you don’t want to ride a scooter.
For short distances apps like **Go-Jek** or **Grab** seem to be perfect. They work like UBER but in Indonesia those two are more popular. You just type in the address where you want to go and then the app is searching for (registered) drivers nearby who will bring you there. Driving with a ‘grab’ is WAY cheaper than with a taxi. If you want to use those apps frequently, you should get yourself an Indonesian cellphone card. In Java this system works perfect and we had no issues at all. In Bali there are some places where the grab drivers are not allowed to go (because of the local taxi drivers). At some locations (for example the Uluwatu temple in Kuta) they are allowed to drop you off, but they can’t take someone back from there (because the taxi mafia is there). If that’s the case and you just ordered a driver it is likely that he will call you and bargain for a higher price. Sometimes they wanted over four times of the original price. The only thing you can do in a situation like this is bargain and/or ask some other guys from the hostel if they want to share the ride with you.
If you need to cover a bigger distance you can either choose a train or a bus (or of course a plane). If you have the choice between a bus or a train, choose the train. It is way more comfortable and faster than a bus.

In Bali you have to take a bus because there are no trains. Unlike in other countries like Thailand you have to book them in advance, at least a few days! We wanted to take a night bus from Denpasar to Probolinggo and they were all sold out two days before departure! That kind of messed up our plans. If you just want to take a bus in Bali, booking the day before departure is fine. You can also check the website https://www.peramatour.com they have some cheap transportation offers. We took the ‘Bromo Tour’ a private transport from Kuta directly to Cemoro Lawang for 300k (15USD) a person. At the end this was even cheaper (and way more relaxing) than taking a night bus to Probolinggo and afterwards a bus to Cemoro Lawang.

Letztes Mal haben wir euch erläutert, warum es unserer Meinung nach am besten ist auf Bali einen Roller zu mieten. Heute werden wir euch ein paar Alternativen zeigen, falls ihr keine Lust auf einen Roller habt.
Für kürzere Distanzen solltet ihr euch auf jeden Fall die Apps **Go-Jek** und/oder **Grab** runterladen. Diese funktionieren genauso wie UBER, aber sie sind in Indonesien weiter verbreitet. Mit einem so genannten „Grab“ zu fahren ist deutlich billiger als mit dem Taxi. Falls ihr öfters solche Apps nutzen wollt, solltet ihr euch eine indonesische Sim Karte zulegen. In Java funktionierten beide Apps problemlos und sind nur zu empfehlen. In Bali hingegen gibt es hin und wieder Probleme. An manchen Orten (z.B. der Tempel von Uluwatu) sind solche Apps nämlich verboten (von der Taxi-Mafia), sodass die Fahrer einen dort nur hinbringen dürfen, jedoch keinen neuen Fahrer von dort mitnehmen können. Daher werden Sie von euch einen höheren Preis verlangen als die Apps. In solchen Fällen hilft nur verhandeln und notfalls einen anderen Fahrer suchen oder im Hostel nach Leuten zum Teilen fragen.
Für größere Distanzen könnt ihr entweder den Zug oder einen Bus nehmen (oder natürlich fliegen). Falls ihr die Wahl habt, nehmt auf jeden Fall den Zug, die sind deutlich komfortabler.

In Bali gibt es leider keine Züge, sodass ihr dort Bus fahren müsst. Anders als in Thailand, solltet ihr diese aber ein paar Tage im Voraus buchen. Wir hatten vor den Nachtbus von Denpasar nach Probolinggo zu nehmen, jedoch war dieser zwei Tage vorher schon ausgebucht, was unsere Pläne ziemlich durcheinander gebracht hat! Falls ihr nur innerhalb von Bali Bus fahren wollt, reicht es normalerweise das Ticket am Tag vorher zu besorgen. Das ist ein privater (!) Transfer von Kuta direkt nach Cemoro Lawang auf Java für gerade einmal 15 USD pro Person!
