What $1 Hive Means For Reputation

As is now customary to see every few weeks or so, the price of Hive has exploded and has gone up around 20%.

Now I know that we can all say the generic "I'm not here for the money" or "there is more than just money to be made on Hive", and though that may be true... Nobody has ever said they don't like the money.

When finding ways to bring my friends to Hive, I found that the easiest way to convince the average prospective user was to tell them how they could earn money by engaging with and writing blog posts. It is simple, yet revolutionary for us to be paid for our time interacting with the things that we enjoy. With Hive holding steady above $1, it becomes an even more convincing platform to join.

It feels psychological in a way because it was just as promising to me at a price of 25 cents/Hive, but to see the $1 mark for any token is a huge mental barrier that no longer holds people back. I think that Hive has the potential to hold this price level as it seems we have been raising the floor value on a regular basis for the last year now. 

To be able to tell someone "hey, I just got a $20 like on a post" is an enormously convincing statement to get them involved. I think that we have the future of social media and blogging here and it seems that the markets are starting to agree with that view...

Just a thought ... I came in during a bear market and watched my posts earn less and less every day for a year -- and then Hive came along and I moved over, and watched the same process happen over in 2020 for another nine months.  Consider the effects of THE BEAR, carefully.  People who come in now, earning $1, are going to have a completely different mind about things when they are earning 25 cents -- consider, as you onboard, the depth of connection that will be necessary to keep them engaged when their investment gets hit!

It is certainly necessary to remain realistic with price, you are correct. I am hoping and am confident that we will not be seeing levels as low as 25 cents, but your point still holds very true. I view the financial incentive as a way to get people in the door, the utility of the applications must be what keeps them coming back.

I hope that you are right ... the BEAR is a tough customer, though ... average altcoins drop 70 percent in it ... but there's a lot of ways to handle that ... ways to put Hive to work in the ecosystem to ALWAYS be increasing value (HBD at ROUGHLY $1 at 10 percent interest is virtually bear-proof, as are ways to delegate staked HP for ever-increasing curation rewards).  The BEAR is not optional, but SOME of the suffering is here on Hive if people are prepared...

I think that is a possible way to attract users but I think it's kind of overplayed. Rather than that I think promoting HIVE as a solution through applications is better. So in a way, they come because of the applications and they don't need to understand the other stuff underneath.

I agree, I pretty much said that in my response to @deeanndmathews just now. I think that price is important, but of course the utility the site provides must be the most important or else price would be a meaningless projection of speculation.
