I just think there is so much plagorism - flaming - spam and stuff of that nature on the site.  Someone upvoting themselves is kinda low on my morality priorities for steemers to be conscience of.  I don't know the long terms effects it will have on the site though.

If you aren't posting wildly low-effort posts 50 times a day, give yourself that upvote to kickstart your post.  You have stake invested in this, you deserve it!

As for comments, I try not to upvote mine at all.  I do when I feel like I have something important to say and I'll scale the vote to a level where I think my idea's merit falls in line.

It's your stake, use it at your discretion.  But if I were to depart advice, I'd say do it humbly and for the greater good.  You have a good head on your shoulders, I can tell.  Upvote your shit!  It's worth something, that's why I upvote you.

Even so, I am with you there. Upvoting on your own comments, especially when it is upwards of $0.10 (IMHO) looks bad and greedy... especially if it is just like "Thanks". It really takes away from the integrity of Steemit!

Yeah, if you're just, what I call "shit posting," as in small talk, not really adding to the conversation or topic at hand, why reward that?  It doesn't merit a reward, let it just be text!  Don't be greedy!  At this point, I could splash a hundred bucks on my comments, but I don't, because only an asshole would do that.  And I try not to be one of those :-).  I want to see this work.
